Pirelli Scorpion STR-A experience?

Hi guys. I did a search and didn't get much, so I figured I'd ask. I know the majority of you love the Yoko Paradas but sadly they are backordered everywhere. So I'm looking at Pirelli's. Can anyone offer feedback on the Scorpions? It would be for all season use for the first year and then I'll hopefully be buying dedicated snows next year.

Thanks

Well, I do like them much better than the OEM tires. They handle well on water and so so on snow, i.e. not bad tires just not up to Parada specs. If you are running AWD then you will notice a significant traction increase in snow over the Duellers.

Thanks for the feedback. I decided to get some Toyo Proxes ST2's. My dealer was able to get them as part of the switch out. I have to pay about $200 but I think it's a good compromise to get away from the damed Bridgestones.

hope the Toyos work out nice for you. did you get them in the same size: 245/50R20?

i have had the Scorpion STR-As for ~15k miles now through last winter and think they are MUCH better than the duellers in handling and response. very good on dry and wet pavement and pretty good in light snow (never tried in more than 1" snow). treadwear seems to be holding up nicely as well (still >6/32" depth).

have not experienced yoko parada spec-x to compare but i think the STR-As are a good value too if you can get them at the budget pricing (~$100/tire) on tirerack.

Thank you

Yeah I hope the Toyo's work as well. I'm planning on onlyhaving to use them during this winter and then get some dedicated snows for next winter. Just couldn't rationalize spending $34K on a car and then spending anotehr $1K on snows. Everything I've read on the Toy's is that they're mediocre in the snow, but as long as they're "safe" then I'm OK with them for one year. Hope we don't get any ice storms like we did last year in the NE.

Thanks for the feedback. I would have probably gone with the Pirelli's but I would've had to wait to pick up the car for a week until they came in. The Toyo's were immediately available.

$200 a year is cheap insurance for your vehicle and family

I don't think you'll be disappointed with the Toyos in snow. They are no snow tires but quite decent in snow. I had them installed in Jan 09. I was only stuck once during the blizzard of DC earlier this year. That's because I purposely drove into a wall of slush after the plow truck cleared the roadways. It took me about 2-3 minutes to rock the 9 back and forth and got out of that mess. I am about to swap them with Yoko Paradas in the next month or so--thanks to the cupping of all four tires :( remember to balance and rotate tires every 5k miles!!
