Pioneer sounds like poo

I bought some Pioneer 4way 6 x 8's for my P5. I installed them correctly and they cannot handle ANY power. Anything above volume 20 (max is 50) and they distort like too much power is going to them, especially bass. What the hell is up with these speakers? The only power going to them is the 50 watts or so from the JVC deck I have. I was told that 4-ways are not made for bass, is that safe to assume? I'm thinking of taking them back and getting the 3 ways instead.

there is no difference in bass between the 3 and 4 way models. the 4 way models just add a super tweeter, which is an extremely small tweeter, which does not effect the bass.

do you have the bass settings up high on the HU? there aren't many regular speakers that are capable of reproducing real bass. and when you try to make them do something they can't, they distort.

get a sub, then put all the bass there and none on the pioneers, problem solved , just sounds like you have the bass turned up way to high for door speakers period...ps. i have the pioneers in my p5 and i also have them in the benz, and they sound good to me!

They distort so easily. If I get it up loud its all a blur...and the deck doesn't push many watts...sigh. If the negative and positive wires are mixed up, will it cause bad sound? I keep getting different answers for that.

That's what I was told. If so...then wow, these pioneers are weaker than stock. (rant)

dunno what to tell you, in both my cars i can turn the volume almost max to where it starts hurting my ears and no distortion...you need to mess with the settings im thinking..

no it's for all speakers...should have a lpf on the door speakers if i remember correctly, havent messed with audio in a while im losing my knowledge

do you JUST have door speakers? you need to keep the low notes from getting to them which is whats causing the distortion probably. just read the specs on what frequency they are supposed to do and eliminate anything below that for now.

By the way, i have the Pioneer 6x8's in the P5 also, along with the Pioneer Premier 6.5's in the rear and they sound great.......get some subs!!!

That is your problem right there. If your deck doesn't have much power, then your answer is that you need more power to them. The best sounding speaker in the world can sound like ass if you aren't giving it enough power.

^^^thats what i was thinking too. get a small amp for your front speakers, should only be like 100bucks, and itll sound much better. all the pioneers ive ever owned have been very clear and loud.

DO that and check the connections to the speaker and make sure that they aren't in reverse polarity (when you have a + lead connected to the - wire and the - lead of the speaker connected to the + wire). As for bass, a lot of aftermarket speakers need more power to get loud versus the cheap paper factory ones that handle 15 watts max, so the factory ones will get louder quicker than the aftermarket ones.

Speakers will sound like crap if they are under powered also, maybe the amp isnt powerful enough to drive them properly

Make sure the + and the - are correctly connected to each speaker. I've seen this many time where the speaker sounds like s***/distors easy if it's not connected right only on some HUs

^^^ What he said... the 50 watts from the JVC deck is really only about 10-13 watts continuous.
