Pioneer Announce the Avic-D3

Being a AVIC-N1 owner, I've seen the new avic's come and go, and none made me want to give up my classic N1 (with the added benefit of parking brake video restriction being easily bypassed.)

However, I got the email about this one, and it looks friggin amazing.

Plus:
No moving parts, theres a little slit right above the screen for cds/dvds.
You can change the illumination to match your dash.
Volumne knob!
ipod integration seems to be even better.
works with videos on a video ipod!

Check it out, i bet it would blend in nicely with the protege dash...and only $1000.

What do you guys think?

I got the AVIC-N1 also, not really interested.

This is an awesome unit... I have already paid for it through employee accommodations directly from Pioneer. It is going to be nearly impossible to bypass the internal gyroscope for in-motion video, but I don't think I will be needing that anyway. Double-DIN touchscreen NAVI, with I-Pod direct audio AND video? You got my vote!!! I think this is gonna set a new price margin for all companies...

BTW, this is the AVIC-D3 not N3. There is no cage listed under the parts supplied in the install manual. However, I do not think it is needed to install if you use a 99-7505 metra kit.

Does anyone know if the car speed signal input can be connected to the speed sense wire (pin 58 on ECM 4) to function properly? Should be the correct one I think...

Yeah, there is so way to bypass the inmotion video lock, however it involves voiding the warrenty. But i'm willing to give it up. Thats all my N1 has over any of the new ones. But the ipod improvments and bluetooth are worth it alone for me.

My order shipped today guys. I can't wait to get the unit. Also, i learned how to bypass the gyro lock out on the newer avics and i'm hoping this one uses the same method.

Now my one question is, what will i need to make this fit in the protege's slightly large double din opening?

i dont understand the point of even including video/dvd in it when you can only use it when you're parked. i mean the idea of parking on a cliff with a nice view and watching a movie with a special someone (read: hooker) is cool and all that, but i'd rather it be an option so that the price would be lower. agree?

Hahah, the damn problem is its illegal to have video in the front half of a moving vehical. For me, i want gps control at all times more so than video. But the video is nice, as long as you aren't dumb while driving. But I am taking a road trip with my gf to florida for her spring break and some family guy episodes is a good way to pass the time.

no i understand the legal issue. i know the drive isn't supposed to watch video while he's moving, but what the hell is the point? assuming you follow the law, what the hell is the point of having a dvd video player that only works when you are parked? i mean it's worthless unless you buy extra screens and hook them up to it so that people seated in the rear could watch, but it should be an option.
