Picked up my car yesterday and love it already

Hey, CatchMe, the problem you are having is normal with our cars... the reason i say normal is that there is an ecu problem where the car is pulling back too much timing at about 3000 rpms till about 5000 rpms. Mazda is coming out with a fix for the ecu by the end of this month, so taking your car in right now will not do you any good, especially if the dealership does not know anything about this just yet. if you do a search on the forum for "hesitation" you will find more info than you probably wanted to know. hope this helps.

did you read that TOPHER?? Should I hold off on bringing her in until they come out with this ECU fix and save myself the trouble??

nope...there is something else wrong with your car...trust me...it shouldn't run like that in 3rd gear...i've driven several...i know about the ecu problem...and that's not what's wrong with your car...in my opinion.

my name is Chris

well - I guess it won't hurt to have you gusy check it out - I think there is a problem outside of the hesitation - that sound coming down the exit ramp off the highway was out of place - I stuck my head out the window because I thought a 747 was hovering over me slowing down its engine speed - the noise just didn't feel right for a car to be making - I hope its not my turbo -- crossing fingers

new problem - on my way to the audio shop just now it was putting out black smoke from the exhaust..........this sucks so bad - I gotta have my car when I leave for D.C.!!!!

ok, i agree, that has nothing to do with the hesitation...just trying to help

it may just be running really rich - the hesitation is pretty bad - it isn't just an annoyance - it is severely affecting my performance in just normal driving conditions

lol...i dunno...some girl with brown hair in a mazdaspeed tried to race my wife when she was going to class...

that wasn't my intention - I don't even pay attention to the people around me.....like I said car couldn't beat a quarterhorse right now

I couldn't help but notice that you complained about the rusty rotor hubs. There is a TSB out for that where the dealer is supposed to fix it for you! While you're in there for the "hesitation" (or whatever that problem is) get him to fix the rust!

This is nothing personal against Topher, but IMHO the dealership should have fixed those rusty rotor hubs BEFORE they sold it!! Just another lazy dealership that does the minimum that they can "get by" with - hoping you wouldn't complain about it.

For me, I scrubbed the rust off and re-painted them myself - but since you're going into the dealership anyway, might as well get your money's worth.

Wait what? I thought that rust was normal!

My neighbor said that it comes off when you brake, lol?

The rust on the brake rotor HUB won't come off when you brake (I know you realize that but I just want to make it extra clear) and unfortunately it IS normal on EVERY Protege I've ever seen! There is a TSB for it however for the stealer to fix it -- most persons experiences are that if they bring it up to the dealer they get "blown off" by the dealer saying "it's normal, go away" (or something along those lines). However, if you mention the TSB then they WILL fix it (again, F-ing dealers......nothing can portray my true disgust for them......)

Here's the TSB for it (note it doesn't specifically mention the Mazdaspeed (yet) but it shouldn't matter - same car essentially and has the same problem.

0003559 Dealer Repair Information

Rust can be seen on the brake rotor hub area when looking between the wheel spokes. The rust is most visible on vehicles equipped with 17" chrome wheels.

1. Remove rust from hub(s) by sanding.
2. Clean/prep hub surface for primer.
3. Mask off brake rotor area.
4. Apply primer around entire hub area.
5. Once primer dries, apply a heat type silver paint to the affected area to repair the vehicle.
Note: Replace the hub(s) if the affected area cannot be repaired enough to satisfy the customer.

Note that some people show this to the dealer and they claim the TSB number is invalid -- if that happens tell them to try number " 0200401R" -- that is the number for the 2000 Millenia with the same problem (that number is directly from a US government website so it must be accurate).
