Perfect Power PRS8 Standalone

Does the Perfect Power use all of the stock sensors? Or do you have to buy special sensors for certain inputs?

With any standalone you will have to buy special sensors for certain inputs of course, but the PRS8 does, and can utilize a variety of stock sensors.

NOT with every standalone.

LOL you deleted my post.
Ahh the good old days!!! (poke)

I will leave the sandbox now, since we all cant get along (silly)

I deleted it because I didn't want no s*** up in my thread here. The said post had the following:

(screwy) (stupid)

That is all it had. Had no pertenent info... If I were a betting man, I could say that was a mild attack. That is the only post I deleted.

LOL, can't blame Patrick for deleting the post. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. (pow)

The PRS 8 system will use the stock sensors. You do not have to buy any special sensors. Total control for about $500.00 less then most systems out there.

Thanks again

let everyone know what you think Linux when you get it up and running.

its getting tiring reading post after post about "500 cheaper than everthing else out there" these subliminal sales pitches get annoying after a while and all most of us are interested in are how you "the user" like the system and how it works with you car.

sometimes I think these theads should be infomertials with all the salesman smashing other products and saying how inexpensive the systems are compared to "the other guys"

Hahah! Don't worry, all the information you need on the unit will be available soon. Remember that guys like FM and MPNick don't try to toot their own horn really because the want the "end user" to tell you what's up instead of you just taking their word for it.

What about the PRS2, and PRS4 units? Isn't the only difference between all of them the number of available outputs (PRS8 having the most)?

The PRS 2 and 4 units are very good units. They only have one temp input, where the PRS8 has two. I have asked Perfect Power in the past Perfect Power to build the PRS4 with two temp input but it is not going to happen anytime soon. The PRS 2 will not work on the Mazda. For the guys that do not care about inspection, this is a great system to go with. All the control you can ever need for less then $800.00.

Thanks again

Glad you finally got things goin, somewhat! (thumb)

Let's keep this on topic.../

This has nothing to do with it. Sorry.

It has everything to do with it. Some systems only work with GM sensors. Other systems like the PRS allow you to calibrate the unit for the sensors you have.

Thanks again

It will depend on if the sensor(s) can be supported by the standalone unit.
The Original post. Higher end units make sure that you can use the stock sensors. You see it isnt a Universal. The AEM comes with a daughter board that supports the entire VEHICLE. Not just sensors. But outputs also. It will "understand" all of the stock inputs signals. That is the difference with quality.
BUT this thread is about the PP unit, so I will keep it that way from now on.

The latest is that my unit has been shipped to South Africa to Perfect Power Headquarters to get the latest version reflash. They say that version 36 will not take my 36/1 crank setup without a new trigger wheel (which MPNick has developed). I could do the Standalone mode like this, but I decided to run Parallell instead, and after talking to Neil, Peter, Nick M., Bob Ida, we thought it best to go ahead and get the reflash. Since this is an older unit, it will have to be opened, and the chip changed. The good news is that I should have the latest version of the PRS8 hardware that should be flashable! They test all units before shipping them back out. Should have my unit back in about a week. $40 express shipping to South Africa. Not bad at all! (thumb) I wish I can ship myself around the world like that!

I picked up a Perfect Power PRS8:

over the net, and have been researching, and getting various sensors for it for over a month. I have the 2.5 BAR MAP sensor that goes to it, and would like to have the Lamda Wideband Sensor to go with it. If not, I'll just get my TechEdge fixed. Anyway, here are the issues I am having now:

I'm finally making headway with my Stand Alone project too. The Perfect Power PRS8 Unit has 2 harnesses that plug into it. A 24-pin connector (for input/output), and a 18-pin connector (for power output). There is also a RS/232 Serial connector for a Laptop/Carputer. ;) The 18-pin harness is just right. The issue I'm having is that the 24-way connecting harness...It's just ******* WRONG! None of the wires match up color-wise or location-wise the way they are supposed to, and there are even a few missing. I contacted Perfect Power USA about what it would cost to get new harnesses. Bob Ida said it would take 2-3 weeks just to order it (so they can include it with their big order from South Africa), and it would cost about $80....For this!:

For some damn wires! Since I didn't get it from them directly, I have to pay for a new harness. After about a week and a half of knowing about this, I decided to do some investigating on the connector to find out why I got the wrong one. Upon studying the connector further, it seems that the connector used for the 24-way harness is the same as a Non-standard ATX EPS 24-pin connector used in rackmount servers to connect the EPS power supply to the mainboard. At first I thought it could be a standard ATX connector, but they only have 20 pins. Looking at the wires on the harness, it made more sense. There is also another connector hanging off 3 wires on the harness that is remeniscent of a CPU/Mainboard Fan connector?:wtf: So my conclusion is that the harness I have could possibly be from a EPS power supply of some type. Knowing this, I may just fix the issue my self. If I could just get my hands on the special tool needed to unlock the wire crips from the connector

= $23
....Wait, I just did. I used two heavy-duty staples. Took a while, but all the wires are out of the connector. :D

These are the female mini-fit pins I had to pry loose:

From one of these:

After looking the price of these mini-fit pins up, I know why the harnesses are so expensive. These little pins cost $1.70 each! :wtf: Get 24 of them, and you have spent over $40! Add the 18-way connector (which I'm glad I have the correct one) + Profit, and you are in the neighborhood of $80. Looks like I will be re-using some of the wires I pulled out. They just plug back in.

Come to find out all the issues I had with this unit (Missing 24-wire harness, lack of support for the PRS..ect.) are a direct result of the internet source I bought it from. I just want to say guys, be careful who you do business with, and beware of shady characters. Just want to say that MPNick has help me out tremendously with this project regarless of where the unit came from. Thank you!

So, do you have the dang thing working yet? Or is it still out at Perfect Power getting re-whatever-it-was getting done to it?

Can't wait until it is all resolved! Let the fun begin! (laugh)
