pcm reflash

....OK lets start in the begining....shall we? I know what a turbo time is, i know what it does. I the words of Yoda "born yesterday i was not". Now, I'm NOT gonna sit here and claim that all of the techs that work in all the mazda dealerships are "A" techs, and really i'm sure some of them could not find their @ss with both hands. What I AM saying is and the POINT i was trying to make was that is you IN ANY WAY modify your car, you ARE going to run into resistance getting warranty work. Let me put it to you this way.....'ever look on the bottom of your dvd player or vcr and see that tape on the case that says something to the effect of "If this seal is broken all warranty if void"??? Well there ya have it! You may have done nothing to the componant that failed but you cracked the seal in their opinion. The solution?? Live with out the warranty or wait untill it expires Anyway if your sooooooo smart and we're sooooooooo dumb, why would you want a dealership working on your car anyway. Can't you do it better?? Alright enough with the name calling and mixed words, i came on here to chat with you guys who drive the speed cars and maybe help if i could. If not then not......then that cool too.

just ignore the MSP guys if they're flaming; this forum has already chased away a few vendors. (I'm sure I'll catch flak just for mentioning that)

Please stick around for the majority of the group who will/do value having someone from the "other side" be on our side looking for positive ways to fix problems.

thanks again for chiming in. feel free to post any updates you may come across.

It looks like just a little miscommunication to me, no harm done. Dealerpersonal, I also want to thank you for your input you have given the board. Now I have a quick question, yesterday, I posted a thread titled "question about my msp" In this thread I mentioned a moaning type noise coming from the car when I start it up in the morning and goes away once engine begins to warm up (couple of minutes). Do you have any insight as to what this might be?

Thanks,

Rudi

Take a look there...is that what you're talking about?

well....not sure about a moaning, but the guy who sent you that link was on the same page as me , the TSB number was a little off, transposed #'s 01-004/03 is the TSB. And i cut and paste:

Some customers may experience an engine rattle noise under light to moderate acceleration with engine coolant temperatures below 65 C (149 F) and engine RPMs between 1000 and 2900 RPM.

The noise is the result of the intentional swirl effect that is generated when the Variable Tumble Control System (VTCS) plates in the intake manifold are closed. Swirl accelerates the burn of the air/fuel mixture which reduces emissions when the engine is cold. The noise does not have a negative effect on the engine, and disappears as soon as coolant temperature reaches 65 C (149 F). There is a counter-measure to help reduce the noise in order to improve customer satisfaction.

Mazdaspd035: Push the clutch in - does the noise go away? If so, mine does the same thing. I have no idea what it is, but it does the same thing...

Well guys.....it's been real but i feel as though i must go for the
day I can hear the cold beer calling me ! (cheers) 5pm....well know you know i'm east coast. LAter

your previous statements show the exact opposite though.

and now youre just telling me common knowledge: any non mazda will bring up warranty resistance.

why cant you just admit that you were wrong?
(by the way i never said anyone was stupid or smart)

Bahh common there is no need to push this topic anymore. Miscommunication, different meanings it doesn't matter. He was just trying to warn people about waranty issues. Not everyone has had to deal with a dealership in that way before (I never have had too) so he was just giving advice. It is nice to know the position of the "dealer" on this one. He didn't say it would boid, just that you would get "resistence."

I saw we ignore the right/wrong crap and just go on talking about how to solve the current MSP issues like the flash.

I'll try that tomorrow morning, thanks for the tip. It really doesn't affect performance or anything, it's just a moan...lol. :)

i think its kinda cool he came on here to give us a heads up.. after all.. how many dealers just read the board and never post anything?
i do have a question for you tho. when you come back tomarrow.. just about the mods i have and if you think they will give me a hard time getting a few things fixed in my p5.. thanks again

Been watching you guys for a while....... looking to see what owners are saying about the speed car. Just to let you know....the PCM reflash is out there, However Mazda did a real poor job letting dealers know about it, Had it been posted as a M-tip or a TSB it would have been alot easier. Have patients, its new info they may not have yet.

You're kidding?! That's odd that a "fix" would be released for a problem that 99.99999999% of service departments denied even existed. How did Mazda USA create a PCM reflash that solved "turbo lag" - how is that possible? In fact, the dealership service departments were 1 of the biggest OBSTACLES in getting Mazda to even begin working on it!

Enough of the sarcastic and ticked off remarks though - I have a question. Since "the clunk" has existed for 2 years, is there ANY realistic reason to believe that Mazda will ever come out with a fix? The only positive is that this is a problem that the dealerships cannot deny the existance of - so at least the dealerships may actually be able to HELP for once (like they're supposed to). You do not seem to be aware of the "promised" mid-October fix that's supposedly coming though, so I suspect I'm asking the wrong person.

The reflash does not address turbo lag, it addresses air/fuel mixture, and timing. The only fix for turbo lag is a super charger. The entire premise of a turbo makes that lag impossible to get rid of, however, the inventer of the turbo (and i agree) felt the bennifits far out weighed the "lag". The reason that service departments denied it existed was the simple fact that ALL the speed cars drove the same. With out any further information from Mazda how in the hell were we supposed to know that theis was something wrong. On a daily basis we are subjected to things and complaints about things you would find hard to believe. Take for instance "My washer stopped working" is a great one.........the fix??? "Did you check the fluid level ma'am? " .......Yep empty. Or "theres something major wrong with my car! the fan sometimes runs after i shut the car off!" I think you all know the answer to that one. Look at the sticker on your radiator support that tells you it will do that. After being in this business any amount of time you learn 2 things. One is unfortunately you become a sceptic, second get a new one from sales and compair. No differance , no problem. As for the mid-october fix........all i can say is that i have nothing telling me something is comming. Any new TSB's , recalls, or M-tips cross my desk. If I see something, trust me guys, I'll post it.
