You're picturing the first race in Need for Speed with the laptop in the passenger seat, aren't you?
From what I understand, this can be done, but it requires a device to connect to the OBDII port and act as an interface. The laptop would then connect to the device. I don't know for sure which ones can do this, but I bet somebody here does.

lol, no, i am picturing using the nav. screen to display Boost pressure, Coolant temp, O2 sensors etc..

i found this site, http://www.scantool.net/?mode=displaySoftware&os=Windows XP

and i need this adapter.

once cobb has released the tuning software, that will be used...

Now I understand, but wouldn't you also need some kind of interface to send the video to the nav screen? It seems like you need an OBDII reader, and an interface/controller to select what sensors you want to monitor, interpret the data, and finally create and send the appropriate images to the nav screen.

pc rs232 can interface to obd2 port and some of that software can interperate the data once you u use that adapter..

the plan was to get a touch screen with mini pc, and use the nav screen bezel , but you cant get that seperatly... so... looks like dash hawk is best option.

I seem to recall that the software package offered at mp3car.com would do that with the appropriate hardware connection, but that was for display from a CarPC...

Rotus8,
I have been working on feature matrix to help me decide between the Dash Hawk, Dashdyno, and scangage. The Dashdyno looks like my early favorite. Do you have any experience with one? I really like the mounting options, GPS compatibility, and removable SD card.

I have the DynoScan software and OBDII dongle and it is pretty good. The dyno curve function doesn't work very well because of an anomaly in the Mazda RPM reporting, but other than that I really like it. I have no experience with the DashDyno, but it look like it would be good.

Why use a pc, why not have a paired gauge setup that display a slew of user selected data straight from the OBDII port!?

Thanks for this! I will add another column in my matrix.

I just reviewed this product - WOW, $399 for a 2 line display. Their demo video has two displays featured in an SRT4 for almost $800 and it cannot even download to a PC!

The Scangauge is almost worhless.

I had a chance to play with a Dashdyno and it was great. I really like the removable SD card feature. The graphics are also very nice.

Cool device, the dashdyno. Seeing as i just bought the Dashhawk, im happy with it, not to mention its support and adding PIDs for our beloved car.
