mazda 3 s winning blue
ok so i now i am intersted in boosting the car...'04 mazda 3 s sedan.

this is a relatively newfound (though not half-baked) interest, and accordingly, my knowledge of dropping a snail in the engine bay is lackluster.

to augment my own research, i'd like to get some basic input if i could please... i realize explaining is never fun...

other than the turbo, a front-mount intercooler, and most likely a BOV, what else is required for the basic SAFE start up "kit" for boosting? how much psi is truly safe for the motor? etc... and how much $ am i looking at...

i'm only looking for around 230hp from the turbo, to start, though would be happy with more.

i now realize (despite an argument with a fellow member many months ago) that turbo'ing the car is a great option...
thanks for the help guys.

you need an exhaust manifold set up as well cuase you need to get the fins spinning some how right... down pipe and exhaust mani, and if you can swing it a 3" exhaust will improve hp/tq a bunch even at a low lvl psi. all the piping to and from intercooler and you need a fuel management system as well as larger injectors i believe. the kit from HiBoost is around 4 grand and it comes pre programmed with everything just need to install it. of course if you have the xtra money some dyno tuning with a local shop deffinatly won't hurt. the only upgrade i would recomend ontop of the kit is the 3" exhuast.

so wait...for 4k i get everything i need to have the car safely rolling with boost??? injectors and all? i hope i understand this correctly because i say thats some pretty fair bang for the $. i must be misunderstanding this... and i gotta throw a short ram on there too...the exhaust (and the other usual suspects) can come later...
?

You should be able to make the numbers you want safely with the Hi-Boost kit and the stock exhaust. You don't need a 3" exhaust unless you are looking to make alot of power.

I'd put some money away for a new clutch just in case.

IMO there isn't a better option out there.

well two issues...
1-does the kit truly come with EVERYTHING i nedd to get some nice safe power (for now of course until the other pieces come together)?
2- here's the blinger.... please don't hunt me down... it was the only choice i had and i was in a pinch... its a 4 SPEED SLUSHBUCKET..... that really doesnt create a problem though right...

i thought there was a guy boosting on an atx? could be mistaken though... and iirc everything comes with the kit to get the car going. the haltech comes pre programmed and everything.

hmmmmmm...... yes.... mmmmm... indeed

yeah i don't think that the atx would be a problem...

this hi boost kit... everyone and their grandmother has suggested it to me... and as you know tsunami, i was skeptical at first....

but im finding myself wanting to just turbo the damn thing and got it over with... after saving my pennies first....

It would be best to look at some of the simple upgrades to the tranny. I'd atleast look into the valvebody upgrade. MrTea has a turbo on an auto Mazda6 and is running more power than you are looking fro and seems to be holding up fine.

Just be aware that the tranny doesn't hold up to alot of torque and abuse.

Lentech is a company that will ahve everything you need and more.
