I decided today to paint my calipers.
I bought a Duplicolor Blue kit a while back and it's quite nice. It comes with a caliper cleaner, tape, blue paint, paintbrush and a paint stir stick. Even though the can of paint looks small, it's plenty. I still have over half a can after I did 3 coats of paint on my calipers.
I also went and bought some VHT Flame Proof clear coating and of course the MAZDA caliper stickers.
I used a floor jack, the scissor jack, and stands so I could do two tires at a time.
So here's how it looked like before
Now I decided to mask the surrounding body area, since I was going to be spraying this caliper cleaner now and the clear coating later.
Now with the spray, I used a toothbrush to really get into it to scrub off anything I could. Of course, some of the really old stuff wouldn't come off, but that's okay.
So after the caliper was cleaned, I started to paint. By doing two calipers at a time, I could put one coat on one of the calipers and then go to the other caliper to paint. Once that one was done, I could head back to the original caliper to add the next coat. It takes around 15 min for a coat of paint to dry, so it worked out pretty good. So once that was done, I did a bit more masking for the clear coating.
Now after the clear coat, I allowed it to dry for around 30min. Just to make sure, I touched the area I was gonna place the sticker on and it was dry. So here it is with the sticker on.
Now some of you may have seen me ask if I should clear coat over the sticker. In theory, it sounded great to add protection to the sticker. Well, I sprayed it on............and the blue paint starting to run onto the sticker!! AGGGGH
With some Q-tips and using the paint running properties of the clear coat (alas I had no paint thinner), I sprayed the Q-Tip heads with clear coat and used it to clean off the blue paint from the sticker. It didn't look as great as it did, but I didn't want to mess it up anymore!
Well here's some pics of the front and back calipers after they are done

I really like how the blue turned out and it was just like I wanted. I think blue looks great with Titanium Grey.
What do you guys think?
