Paint Chips AHHHHH

I'm going through something similar with my MS3. I took her out to Colorado from California for Christmas and ran into some nasty weather. There was black ice on the highway through Arizona and Colorado and the local trans authority coated the road with sand. From getting stuck behind big rigs and other cars the MS3 got sand blasted pretty bad. There are chips all over the bumper, hood, front quarter panels, roof, windshield, headlights, side mirrors, lower rocker panels, doors, rear bumper and possibly the front wheels. Bad enough that I'm going to file a comprehensive claim to have it repaired. I went by a local body shop and they estimated it at $9500 dollars to repair and repaint all of the pitted panels.

With all of the repair and painting needed I'm a little nervous. I would like to have the chips repaired but thats alot of painting!

Well you'll want to ask yourself if you can live with the damage for the rest of the vehicle's life. A good shop would repaint the car so well you'd never know the difference (most colors at least). And it sounds like they're going to repaint most of the car anyway. The only disadvantage is that the front paint may not be as resilient as when it came from the factory. Then again, you could always overlay some clear film protectant once your paint has cured...

I was thinking about doing that, sort of a do over for me.

I've also thought that since its going to be painted, I might consider an Autoexe bumper or something else.

Wow, This Mazda paint is sorry as hell. I have a black mica and just looking at the hood alone makes me want to cry. Paint shop is a must with these cars man!

aftermarket paint will hold up to chipping better than factory. way more film build, more cushion. 2 coats of clear at 3 mils each is more than the factory 2-3 mills total. dupont told me at paint school to add flex additive to the front bumper hood and fenders and it will let the paint flex more and help stop chipping.

Its definitely not Lexus paint but its still better than the paint Subaru uses. I had a few subies in my day and they all chipped like porcelain up front, ridiculous. My buddy has a 08 STI and his bumper/hood looks worse than mine and he wasnt the one who was sandblasted on the highway like I was, its pretty bad.

Just finished washing my car and the paint chips are ridiculous.
Paint chips on the hood, the bumper, the fenders, the A-pillar and even a few chips on the side doors!!! I'm surprised there aren't any on my side mirrors.

just rolled my fenders at the autox today because my r comps were rubbing bad the bad before. Cracked all the paint on that lip! I love it

Whats the best way to undo the paint chips? Does Mazda do any repainting or touch ups or what can I do?

How the hell is a stick on magnet going to be theft proof? Do you bolt it to your front end? Where do I sign up?

not a bad idea. the only issue is that the magnets will tend to lose their strength over time.

This is from their website - "The magnetic bra's patented design makes it theft-proof and secure at any speed. A durable, U-shaped edge trim covers the leading edge and sides of the bra. The trim keeps wind and water out and makes it impossible to remove the bra without opening the hood."
