Paint Chips AHHHHH

Yep it is that time of year. tickity tic tic tickety tonk. bad sounds all of them I had tar on my roof

I also have to agree that the paint is way too thin!! I was washing my car and I saw what looked like tar but then after a real close look and a few rubs it wasn't!! I was like no way that the paint can come off that easily like that!!! Now since I looked around I found a lot of spots wear the paint came off. Mazda should of used a few more coats (pissed)

i hope everyone realizes that it isn't just Mazda. it's every single car in this price range. even STI's and EVO's have the same paint problems and they're much more expensive. just be grateful you're helping the environment with your bad paintjob. hehe.

i hate paint chips!

(pissed)GAAAHHH!!! Some jerk off was in an exit only lane today in boston and who knows what he was thinking but kept driving straight through the break down lane and of course the day i'm driving like a responsible adult in the slow lane next to him he kicks up a huge chunk of pavement and lands on my hood and leaves a big scratch and dent ... ahhh who are these ppl that just coast through life leaving a wake of destruction behind them!!!

if its just a scratch i use a waterproof felt pen to touch if up (if you can find the right color) it works good on a black car. red too. i also use it on my blue truck.

i traded a black car with the scratches covered with a felt marker. a lot of them. the trade in dude noticed some wax residue and thought it was a scratch but he never saw the real scratches. i would say it worked fine!!

Well I thought I'd resurrect this thread and give some info about the clear film protectant. I went with Ventureshield and couldn't be happier with the results. The guys did the front bumper, hood/front fenders (24"), headlights, foglights, and side mirrors. The materials and installation come with a lifetime warranty. Total was $675.00 and, considering each headlamp is $630.00, I feel the price was worth it.

XPEL is a company that does pre-cut patterns for the MS3 on the Venturshield film. Patterns are fairly tight, so tight in fact that you have to stretch the Ventureshield film to fit the edges properly. But there are no bubbles, no streaks, and no discoloration. I have an 09 CWP MS3 by the way.

If you are thinking of a clear bra, I HIGHLY recommend a pre-cut pattern. Otherwise they'll use a razor blade over the film (while on the car) which can easily penetrate the paint.

If anyone wants to see pics, let me know and I'll be happy to post them up.

its to late for me, but i sure would like to see pictures. I had a talk about how easy the car's paint chips with my collision guy and he said there is nothing different about our paint. So he gave me a bit of touch up after repairing my bumper. I would have liked to done the front fenders, bumper, grill and hood if ihad known it was going to get so many chips. Looking forward to the pics. Very relevant. Design

All I have are raw/unedited pics; sorry for the size. You will notice several moisture bubbles on the hood/bumper which are normal and should go away within a week. If they don't, I simply call the installer and he'll happily come back and work them out. I also had a hard time finding a good pic showing the film border. That's how "invisible" it really is.

The film has a clear coat that can be polished with any clear wax. They say to avoid colored waxes that can stain the film. I will be using Meguire's Tech Wax 2.0. I've heard turtlewax blue ice works ok too.

Man I wish I purchased this before driving it at all. I have a paint chip on the hood thats about the size of a pencil eraser. drive me crazy

Apparently colors like Crystal White Pearl are a PIA to touch up. That was my biggest reasoning for going with the clear film. We'll how it holds up after 5-6 years... I plan to drive this car at 120K.
