paddle shift on CX-5

That's what I love about Japanparts; they will order s*** even if it's not readily on their website.
Are you saying I can order no-NA spec rear seat headrests through Japanparts too? Can I just give them the part number and have them order it?

Worth a shot. Send them an email and ask. While your at it would you mind asking if they can get some of those JDM rear cargo liners?

And I'm patiently waiting to see how this paddle shift retro fit all plays out for the 2016 gt's

So the wiring came in yesterday. I'll probably install it next weekend, but I've been driving myself nutty trying to solidify the wiring required in my head. So I decided to lay out a diagram to make myself comfortable with it (see below). For those of you who have done this modification (pre-'16 models as well), does this seem about right? I'm 99% on everything from the steering wheel to the clockspring connector. From there to the stop/start connector I'm a bit unsure of my decoded layout.

I won't really know until I pull off the steering column trim, but this is what I believe needs to be done at this point. Of course I'll still need to wait on the replacement, replacement back cover to try everything out. I'm thinking that may take 3 weeks or so due to shipping from Japan.

I only carefully checked the K015-V7-481 wiring because the wiring inside the steering wheel should be plug-and-play with the BNK8-66-4M2 harness. Your diagram looks correct and matches the Mazda 6 shop manual.

Good deal, that's a good confirmation, thanks Berner. BTW has anyone seen a shop manual for sale for a '16 CX-5? I've searched and come up with nothing.

Srad600, shoot RLCarrington a quick message to ask. We were talking speakers and wiring cam up. He told me about downloading some manuals. Perhaps he could help. Great guy too.

Now for someone to sift through the photos and create a sticky for the 2016 CX5 paddle shifter upgrade. (popcorn)

Parts I've used for my 2016 paddle shift install.

D10J-V7-480 (Steering wheel rear cover, w/paddle shift)
K015-V7-481 (Wire harness, clock spring to start/stop unit)
BHT1-66-3P0 (Paddle switch)
BNK8-66-4M2 (Wire harness, w/cruise control, w/paddle shifters)
9YA0-11-007 (Steering wheel bolt)
GJS2-32-750 (Paddle switch screws)

When going through JapanParts.com do you have to email them directly to get the order placed? They don't have the above parts listed online.
Also, do you have to request TWO of the BHT1-66-3P0 (Paddle switch)?

???. I posted the japanparts.com part numbers in post #110. One BHT1-66-3P0 per car. Order two only if you have two CX-5's.

It is the same parts as Fahrenheit posted except you have the "Paddle Shift Kit" which bundles some of the parts together.

2016 MAZDA CX5: (individual parts)

D10J-V7-480 (Steering wheel rear cover, w/paddle shift)
K015-V7-481 (Wire harness, clock spring to start/stop unit)
BHT1-66-3P0 (Paddle switch)
BNK8-66-4M2 (Wire harness, w/cruise control, w/paddle shifters)
9YA0-11-007 (Steering wheel bolt)
GJS2-32-750 (Paddle switch screws)

2016 MAZDA CX5: (bundled kit)

479-006-001 (Switch)
479-006-002 (Paddle Shift KIT)
479-006-003 (Paddle Shift w/ Harness)

Correct, as far as I have been able to determine. The "kit" is specifically for the CX-5, so I would hope that would avoid the issue that Srad had with the wrong backplate. All of the other parts match # for #.

I haven't tried to see whether the parts are cheaper individually or in the "kit", nor have I compared japanparts.com prices to US prices (yet). Some of the items should be in US parts systems (paddles, upper harness, screws, bolt) because they are common to the 3 and 6. There wouldn't be a CX-5 paddle backplate in US parts systems, but you can look for the CX-3 backplate as Fahrenheit mentioned. The lower harness probably isn't in US parts systems (?) because there are no US cars with an official paddle add-on. The factory paddle-equipped cars don't need the lower harness because they are pre-wired for paddles. That's that's almost certainly going to need to be obtained from japanparts (479-006-003).

So when is someone going to do the "how-to" write up on this? At least could someone summarize this thread and what parts need to be ordered for the 2016 GT with tech?

Also, when looking at japanparts.com there is a question about whether or not you have adaptive cruze control, has anyone found a difference with the I-activsense package and the adaptive cruze control for doing this mod? I'm hoping to get some funds soon so that I can order up the parts. I'm thinking Japan parts for the lot might be the best bet but if theres the same parts state side that may be cheaper as far as shipping goes.

Technically, I've already written one. But I'm still waiting on a replacement back piece to make sure it works. Once my install is complete and working I can post it, unless someone does so before me.
In reality though, all of the necessary information is already in this thread.

Yeah, I know it's all here, but going thru 1 pages and shifting through what back plate and what harness as worked, not worked can get tiresome. It's be nice to have it all in on convenient post or write up, with pictures. Pictures are everything!
