PA emissions help

:
02 Protege ES - Boosted
Hey guys I recently got honorably discharged from the Marines and moved from cali to West Chester PA. I have the Hiboost turbo kit on my car and need to find a place that'll sticker me asap. Any tips or suggestions would be much welcomed. I have already tried to see if it would pass and as I expected, it didn't. Thanks.

how in the HELL did you pass in CA and not in PA lol

also what did you fail? i would have thought that west chester was far enough away from the city where u just had inspection not emissions?

even though i hate to say this, check out pittspeed.com its a local pittsburgh forum. They have meets every week in downtown pittsburgh. Talk to a few guys down there and see if you can find a "mod friendly" mechanic that will slap a sticker on for a few extra bucks.

i actually never had it registered in ca, it was registered in NH because that's where i am originally from, so that was my loophole around the emissions thing. now that i live in pa ive had to change everything over and no more loophole. i need to figure something out thought or else im gonna be forced to sell the car i think.

yeah the HiBoost kit doesnt use 02 sensors so i dont have any, and apparently the Haltech computer resets the ecu everytime i start the car so it cant read the obdII anyways.

Hm... You just gotta get to know someone in the area... I really dont know anyone down in West chester, Allentown I could prob. find ya someone that can help you. But if you are running the stock ECU you should be able to have it all pass Just a FYI. So theres a issue somewhere in the install or parts I suspect. And im like 30-40 mins away from you.

standalone will def. make you fail all PA inspections/emissions if you dont have at a PnP setup.

one of the reasons y i never went that route.

outlaw, thats what i thought too that cause i was still running everything but fuel through the stock ecu, i could pass obd, but after doing some research apparently obdII will never pass when using the haltech f10x

GL in finding a mod-friendly mechanic. I don't know of any around me (I've always used a guy that went to school with my in-laws and he's by the book). I'm sure someone on here can give you a lead though.

i dont know how extensive the modifications are to install the hyboost kit, but here's my suggestion:
find out how to get the o2 sensors back into the exhaust, and make sure you have at least on cat between them. that way, the stock ecu "Could" be used as a temp solution to get you through the emmissions check.

I pass every year. You have to set things up with connectors (for inj wires to haltech and inj to stock ecu) and use a spark plug non-fouler if you don't have a cat. I have to swap my injectors also but other than that I switch back to stock injector control 4 wires and wire back the 02's and put some normal driving miles (50 or so stop n go getting on and off the freeway and such) and no problems. Just don't go into boost for that short time!

I keep my J&S totally intact for timing control and it doesn't effect emmisions but it keeps the motor in check especially without the haltech in play.

outlaw, thats what i thought too that cause i was still running everything but fuel through the stock ecu, i could pass obd, but after doing some research apparently obdII will never pass when using the haltech f10x

I plan on doing the harness extention for that standalone, just swap back to stock ECM for testing.

I just picked up some 6 contact connectors from radio shack It only take a minute to swap back to stock plus I have to swap injectors which is another 15minutes. Cake :)

im still using the stock injectors so no problem there, but as for everything else i dont have any of the old stock parts leftover, so it'll be a major pain to swap back to the stock ecu im thinking.

down that way the do the obd2/gas cap test.they actually plugin to the obd port under the dash.the only way it could be inspected is if yyou put the stock ecu and wiring harness back in the car.
