P5 NA Build - Target 175whp

thanks for freakin heart attack! I thought something happened after I touched it on Saturday... yeeesh.

It ran a little lean that evening 16.0-16.4

no dice on the set screw unless you want to buy a whole throttle body says the dealer.

I'm sure True Value or any other hardware store can help me out. Wow, mazda. Anyone want to get the specs from thier throttle boddy plate set screw so i dont have to buy one of everything?

Probably from the adjustments I made to the water map is why it went lean. I tried to get it back to where it was before I fiddled. Have you gotten that straightened back out?

I'll be in the garage some tonight so I'll try to see if I can get you some measurements.

Later!

So you know my spare fsde engine i have, well it has a intake and TB bolted to it that isn't being used. I'm sure it also has a TB plate set screw on it which isnt being used. I'm going to go check tonight after work.

Good thing i'm on top of things.

Steve - ill prob give you a call once I see how she idles after getting the screw reinstalled

Congrats on getting married! When is the date? I have been married for over three years now and love it.

So are you going to be jumping back on the dino again any time soon now that it sounds like you have your EMS a little more dialed in now? Have you got the light weight pulleys or any other performence mods yet?

Thanks! Nov 22 is the point of no return. I would like to have another dyno done once i get my lightweight pullies and safeguard installed. I also want to head to the strip soon too but all those thing might have to wait until next year. Right now I'm saving up for paint and enjoying driving the p5 on a daily basis.

Sweet! Well good luck with your wedding plans, they are deffinately more stressfull the last few months. I will pray for your sanity. lol Glad to hear your saving but I hope you pay off all debt first though. Being debt free in a marriage is one of the biggest blessings you can have in a marriage. It will take alot of stress off of you both, believe me!

So yah I would be pretty happy with 145+ HP's too. Have fun with the P5, give us any updates if you have any. Although they will probably be few and far between with getting married and all. lol

Anyone running a standalone and NA, how much timing are you running at WOT? Cruising? What to you think is the highest i could get away with on 93 octane?

J&S, Waste of money or good to get?

coming soon... medival pullies installed, J&S safeguard (most likely), custom adj cam gears, and more tuning! Looking forward to a new dyno and some 1/4 mile times.

Also been thinking about nitrous..... ok I'm done thinking

Any one have any input or guidelines for finding the best cam gear settings on a dyno?

Every engine will be *slightly* different...in general the FS seems to LOVE timing...its pathetic rod ratio has one good saving grace - its resistance to detonation is pretty extraordinary. Your best bet, if you want a cheapy way of doing it, is to hook up some wire and a headphone jack to the stock knock sensor, and plug it into your computer. Search for some realtime soundwave monitoring software and look for big spikes under load. Generally, if you HEAR pinging, its to late, the motor has been pinging for a while already.

by all reports, good to get. Its very intellegent, backing out timing on a per cylinder basis and then agressively feeding it back in, or at least attempts to. It can be used to get a base timing map, then provide a safety net against poor fuel or insanely hot intake temps.

Sounds awesome - nitrous can be fun but given that you're running higher compression, tighter tollerences, and still with the stock rods, i'd be careful about running large shots. 50hp on the stock australian spec internals seems to be quite safe....

Anyway - get the J&S, give it as much timing as it can handle safely, adjust your cam gears to take best advantage of your rev range, and i think you should give your goal of 175hp a nudge. Whats the go with the ultimate 200hp build you were talking about? :P

I still have my spare FSDE and manual trans tucked away. I would really like to start that some day but I'm afraid it probably wouldn't be for a couple years. house+wife+family = lots of other expenses

unless of course someone wants to sponsor me.......

Sure, i'll pay pal you a tenner, if you chuck my name on your car ;)

hahaha.

As interested as I am, I don't want to go through all 11 pages. So where are you at in terms of whp now?

just under 150, still want to get closer to 175

decent set of headers and you're well on the way dude.... of course, have the headers built for the next engine - but leave the runners marginally longer (in line with your current rev range) - That way you just get them shortened slightly when you go all out on FSDEmkII
:)

how about getting a hybrid 4-2-1 designed?

I want long primaries with decent cross sectional area and a big merge collector, right? What about stepping and sequentially pairing the primaries? any thoughts?
