P5 Lightweight flywheel

Looking to replace the clutch and flywheel. Don't do any racing or track stuff, engine is stock with MP3 ECU.

Going with an OEM clutch but would like to go with a lightned flywheel. Did searches and could not seem to find a flywheel weight in the middle.

Fidanza is 7.5 lbs, too light. The one from Corksport is 18 lbs. Trying to find something in the 13-15 lb range.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ryan (Protege52003) had the Fidanza.. I believe he said it was pretty daily driveable.

hmmm, how about taking the corksport one the the machine shop and have them take some material out of it to lighten it up? I'm not sure how much they could take out though before it lost any signifigant strength?

NO!!! Bad idea, you would have to grind the s*** out of it to shead any noticeable weight. Which in turn would weaken the s*** out of the flywheel.

just lighten the stock one.

and driveability with the fidanza is fine. i have no problems at all. why do you think it's too light?

i have the fidanza also. it took about one or two drives to get use to it. You'll be happy w/ the Fidanza. You probably wouldn't even notice a difference w/ the CS one.

well thats the trick you can't take too much out. I bet you could get 1 or 2 pounds out of it and still be ok. I dunno if its worth it or not though.

i never understand why people think its too light either (ughdance)

oh it's coz you lose torque! (scratch)

simple equation. torque and power are directly related. 1 goes up and the other MUST go up, so if you gain power, how can you lose torque?

Do those of you who have a lightweight flywheel drive in stop and go traffic often? Do you notice yourself having to use the clutch more often?

Yes, I frequently use the clutch when shifting gears

:D I know what you are asking though... and I'd say no...

(stooges) Ya I guess I worded that poorly. I guess what I ment to say was do you find yourself having to work the clutch excessively(alot more than stock) when in stop and go traffic to keep the car from stalling? I mean you can let the car kinda coast abit in stock form and the RPMS don't fall too quickly so you don't have to keep working the clutch. How does the light flywheel do in that situation?
Thats still not the best explanation...(doh)

How much is the Fidanza? Also, what is the labour involved? I am looking to do a lighter flywheel and am wondering the cost.

Ken at Protegegarage has a good price on them. The install is labor intensive. You have to remove the whole transmission to get to the flywheel/clutch assembly.

Fidanza 7lb Aluminum Flywheel $349.00 from protege garage. Labor involved should be like changing the clutch. I haven't don it on my MP5 yet but this is how it went when I did the clutch on my tacoma: Pull the tranny, remove clutch, remove flywheel, change pilot bearing & throwout bearing, install new flywheel, install new clutch or re-install old one, put tranny back in. There my be more too it on the MP5 but I don't know.:)
