P5 Intake Manifold

Anyone know if the J-spec Intake manifold is a direct bolt up, or do you need other parts top make this work. Found one for a decent price and i need to replace mine.

From the Protege FAQ:
TheMAN said:
Several modifications to the vacuum line routing will have to be performed when installing the FS-ZE intake manifold to either of the US spec engines. First, the early FS-ZE's intake manifold does not have a fitting for the boost sensor (only the 2003s did). For semi-legal emissions effectiveness and to avoid the "Check Engine" light to come on, you will need the JDM EGR pipe (FSN7-20-310A). The JDM fuel rail also does not have the fuel line pulsation damper built in, unlike the US fuel rail. The fuel line pulsation damper on the FS-ZE is actually located slightly upstream in the fuel line (inlet side) as an external unit. Because of this, you will have to use aftermarket fuel lines for the short section between the firewall and the fuel rail in order to use the pulsation damper (BP4X-20-180).

So this intake alone is really supposed to bump the hp on NA up that much? Doesn't look much different than the US one. Where's the magic & why wouldn't everybody be clammering for this if so?

VTCS isn't on the JDM manifold

i think its VICS setup works better too, but not 100% sure

Its still going to be rather limited....

bigger gains to be had from other manifolds (626, or custom)

Mine is P&P'd with VTCS removed & I don't feel near any 45hp gain. Isn't US FSDE around 135hp stock at crank? Not seeing how just this intake will take you to 180 like the claim on the auction says. Need a turbo kit to get in that neighborhood.

Wasn't thinking so even for a second. Everyone here would be all over that s*** if so.

not necessarily. Has anyone actually TRIED it on the FS-Dee dee dee?

You can be the first, go for it. LOL. I'd like to here TheMan's thoughts on the possibility of that being correct. I'm thinking you'll also need the higher compression block/pistons, ecu, head & or whatever else is different about the FSZE to get ya there.

The auction says cams, pistons, and intake get you 180hp. But it's cams, pistons, intake, and (critically important) ecu which get you 170hp.

No, the JDM manifold has a larger plenum than the MP3 manifold, IIRC.

You sure about that? i have seen both and it looks Exactly like a mp3 manifold.

Now i know the 1.8l manifold looks exactly like the jdm and mp3 but it does have a smaller plenum.

No, I'm not totally sure about the plenum size, but check the Protege FAQ--there are differences between the IMs.

Better money spent on fixing your VTCS and the P&P.

More money for mods that will make more hp.
