P5 -> BMW M3 Upgrade or Downgrade?

Well im considering doing this. "Upgrading" the p5 with almost 36k miles to a bmw m3. Hopefully the one thats in my parents garage but if not then there is another i have my eyes on. In retrospect I got to thinking if in reality it is an upgrade or am i downgrading? I ask because it would be a used car with more miles but then again its an m3 so yeah...whats the verdict?

98 m3 my father has a 98 blue exterior grey interior convertible top....around 52k miles on the odo. the other one i saw online from a dealer is coupe blue exterior with like 61k abouts, im unsure about that ones condition but well see. i ask about it being a downgrade because of the miles...

*edit* My fathers car is in impecible condition its been babied since day one and the exact exterior color is winning blue i think? its the sparkly blue sky color...amazing if you ask me!

I think that the mileage is not a big deal as long as you like the car.

Otherwise I've downgraded a lot since last year, because I put 30 K on the car (shocked)

I'm not sure about the reliability of the BMW's though. Just don't know anything about them.

LOL def an upgrade ... the S52 engine in that e36 m3 will do over 200k miles easily if you take care of it.

I would say it's definatly an upgrade if it's to your dad's, he bought it new, and you know the full history and how it's been treated. The other one may be also, but you risk not knowing what the previous owner did to it or treated it.
