P5 badge colors

Hi all,

I'm a new owner of a 2002 grey(oops I mean Silver) P5 and had a question about the badge on the back of the car. My badge says Protege5 with a silver 5. I've seen others with a red 5. What makes the difference? The year?

I hadn't seen a silver until mine. It doesn't look like the red was scratched off either. Pics for the 2003 seem to have a chrome 'Protege' and a red '5'. Mine is all silver like the car.

Strange.

I think the last owner might have done just that. He gave me a bottle of touch-up paint when I took it home. He would have had to been really careful not screw it up, but it isn't impossible. I figured it was the way it came. It does blend into the back rather well.
