P2177

Very interesting. The recall "problem" was for failure to trigger a CEL when it should have been triggered under CA emissions standards (I think). Don't fault BEGI just yet, since the MS-CAI is doing something similar after the emissions recall. Maybe there'll be others of us getting this CEL, too. Maybe we'll see if the lack of an air-straightener is a factor.

I should know better than to blame the BEGi box. I am just frustrated. Is there a way to adapt or make an air-straightener for the aftermarket intakes?

That information is technical because our program is made for techs not DIY'ers. I presented it because I feel that your dealer needs to look at the purge solenoid. Ours is the swirl valve, apparently. Just put the stock stuff on and off you go to the dealer!

I will wait for the CEL to come back on. Like I said before, my car ran fine yesterday after putting the stock air box back on. I didn't drive it today because they were calling for a chance of snow.

I have so much to learn about this car.

Hey, I think we're onto something. Check out "CEL after Dealer Re-Flash..." on the other forum dealing with this same issue. One poster's problem appears to be sloppy work at the dealer where the MS-CAI was left loose after the recall was performed. There are a few suggestions as to other possible causes.

I am almost now half tempted to put the BEGi box back and see what happens. I wonder why the intake was touched on the car you are talking about. It makes me think about a recall that I had on my Mitsubishi. They wanted to reflash the ECU, but after reading that people were having issues after having it done, I never did it. I am wondering now if I should have never had the recall on the MS3 done.

Yeah, kind of a mixed bag. You get one recall that keeps the CEL from lighting unnecessarily and another that (for those us not in CA/MA/VT) makes it more likely to light unnecessarily.

I have another idea. When I had the BEGi box installed, I removed the front of the battery box in the hopes of forcing air into the back portion of the box. It works, but could the extra air coming in be an issue?

No the air in the box would be fine. The maf reads whats in the tubes. I would put the begi back on now and see if the light comes back. I have heard the begi box is well designed so it may have been a fluke.

I took mine in to the dealer pulling both (2177 & 2178) codes yesterday. The service guy called me today and asked for all of my stock engine parts. They are going to put on the stock air box, BOV, and DP to see if that eliminates the CEL.

Something interesting he said, the dealer can not return the ECU to the previous flash it had.

I took mine in today with 0401-2177. They think it is the forge bpv. I will find out more later and post!

I don't know what the reflash consists of, but if it has anything to do with air/fuel mixture that could be a possible candidate.

Were you able to put the aftermarket intake back on to see if there was still an issue?

The reflash apparently leans the a/f mix up a bit to comply with stricter environmental standards. Apparently with my mods, it leaned it out too much and triggered a CEL.

I had the MS CAI, i should find out today if that caused the CEL or if it was the BOV, or re-flash(most likely).

Turns out I had a pin hole size leak right before the first O2 sensor on the DP. That was letting air in at idle tripping the code.

i got a CEL today but it was for "random cylinder misfire" it all started when i was on my way to school and i thought i was only running on 2 cylinders cause i could barrally accelerate it was jerking and popping really bad but when i got on the highway it started to get a little better but not much so after school after it got a little warmer it started to run a little better then after 5 min of driving it was fine so i called the dealer and they said i got a bad batch of gas and i needed to put this stuff call HEET from the gas station and put 2 bottles of it in my tank and now its fine they said the CEL will go away after a few hundred miles of driving... this has happend to me twice now expectually since its gotten colder.. o and i though i might mention that the caliber srt-4's are slow and junk just check out the video of me raping one on youtube type int search "mazdaspeed3 vs caliber srt-4" LOL (burnout)(burnout)
