Overheating Z828

Hey guys,

A search so far hasn't turned up what I'm looking for, so I'll put this question out to the experts: Has anybody experienced their HU overheating when using the CD player for... oh, let's say 15 minutes. After 4-6 songs on an audio CD, the front and underneath (through the pocket) of the unit get really warm, you can't go backwards in the song list (ie. to songs #1-3 or 4) and when you eject the disc, it is REALLY warm, almost hot. So far to combat this, I've been running the fan on COLD through the upper vents, but it only delays the overheating by 10 additional mins or so. I pulled the console face off, and can't find anything blocking airflow to the unit itself.

I'm stumped. Help.

yeah i have that as well... i tough it was normal? I didn't notice the "can't go backwards in the songs tough".. altough sometimes i kept pressing "Back" and it would just restart the song even if i pressed 100 times in a row so that might be it?

I've never been able to not cylce thru tracks, forwards or backwards with mine. My CDs do get hot though.

Yeah, that's what I mean. You hit 'Reverse' to go back to song 1 or 2, the unit hangs for like 10-12 seconds, then starts up at like, 2:17 of song 4 or something like that.

As near as I can figure, since the tracks on a CD are burned from the inside out (Track 1 at the centre of the disc), maybe the heat is being generated from the CD spinner motor, transferring to the disc centre first and radiating outwards.

I've already had the dealership ship the unit out once to reset the code, I'd hate to have it go back out again, especially if there is no fix?

MP3 tracks, or CDA tracks?? Since this was Kenwood's first crack at a MP3 and CDA player, maybe it's not able to handle double duty??

My unit does hang from time to time but its forever ( stays on the random search indefinatly ).. i need to re-insert the CD for it to stop.. it doesn't happen very often tough...

What do you mean by "reset the code" ??
