02 Protege 5
This is my first time posting so bare with me. I have an 02 protege 5. I have noticed my a/c compressor kicking in and out. So I took it to the shop so they could fill my a/c fluid. He said it was a little low so he filled it and it worked great for two days. Then all of a sudden the compressor starts kicking in and out again. On my way home from work i left the a/c on and it worked and then stopped. I didnt turn it off just kept driving in bumper to bumper traffic. Suddenly my motor started getting warm.
Well I got it home. Lifted the hood and noticed that only one of the fans on the radiator was blowing. So I looked on line and found that on some cars not both fans are for cooling the motor. Says that the one fan is for the a/c condensor.
I dont figure that its the water pump cause I'm not having any horrible noise of bearings gone bad or what not. The motor has had no problems ever untill just the other day with the condensor. So i dont understand why that would have an effect on my engine cooling system. The motor is bone stock. I only have a cat back exhaust. I have 83000 miles. If you have any ideas please help! Thank you!

fuses look good. Wouldnt the water pump make some type of noise if it was bad? Where would the relays for the fans be located?

I guess before i go to hunting relays i would like to know if the a/c fan actually ads in the cooling process?

from what i'm reading on some other posts it might be the t-stat. I think i will replace that tomorrow and report back with me findings.

Just be careful that you don't drive your Protege too much if it starts to overheat. My radiator failed, for whatever reason, and I was forced to drive while the engine was overheated. This warped the engine block. It had to be re-tooled which set me back $1.5 k.

ouch sorry to hear that... Personally i wont drive my car if the engine is hot. I'll wait for it to cool down and limp it a a little bit and repeat but not letting it get hot.

It was the T-stat!! Think god! I came to this conclusion: While sitting in traffic, my ac compressor went out. It was dragging on the motor creating more heat than what the radiator fan itself could deal with. Got hot enough that it broke the oem t-stat. So now I'm looking for an ac compressor if anyone knows where to find a good priced one. Thanks for your input!!

Yes..It does.
Without the airflow across the radiator and condensor...The AC can not remove heat from the Cabin.

nope, not that im aware of.
See above post.

And Yes..when you run your AC and you are sitting still....You will up the engine coolant temps EVEN IF you have everything working properly.
The heat that i being removed is now being pulled across the radiator which does not allow the radiator to release the heat it needs to form the engine as efficiently as when the car is moving with sufficient outside airflow or when the AC is not running.

The AC compressoer Does kick on and Off as it cycle eve withthe switch in the ON position the whole time..It is designed to so do.

Why do you think you need a New compressor....I really think some one is feeding you a line here.

Does the car cool?
Does the AC compressor RUn?
Is it Cycling?
Does the AC Secondary fan run while the AC is running?

Answer these questions..I will come back to you this evening.
