One Week in my 2007 Touring 3

Finally took delivery of my new 2007 5 door Touring. Looked all over the east coast and finally found a Crystal White Pearl with sunroof and cd changer.

I had a 2004 and put 70,000 miles on it before a nice lady in a Kia Rio destroyed it by wiping on the left side. I came out without a scratch, but the 3 was a total. I hated to loose that car.

I spent the next few days reviewing the cars I could buy, but it always cam back to the 3 for the safety, FUN FACTOR and reliability. Off to the Mazda dealer to find a new 3

My 04 and 07 were 5 doors in white. There the simularity ends.

The 2007 is a much improved car and I wouldn't have believed that there was much room to do that. The handling is still the best, but the ride control is much improved. Sharp bumps don't shock the car and its ability to handle the back roads of Baltimore County is a joy. My 2004 would bottom out and react with sharp jolts to the rough roads, not so the 07. It must be shocks, springs and the stiffer chassis. More civilized, but at no cost to the handling.

The car seems quieter at speed and they definitely fixed the buffeting from the open sun roof.

Equipment wise the 07 has it hands down with the stability control (which can be turned off and on) and the traction control. A fast uphill start on wet pavement produced an instant of wheel spin and then the tc kicked in almost like 4 wheel drive, there was no more spin. Seamless. The tire pressure monitoring is another plus that was available in 2004, but I couldn't find a car so equiped.

To say the Crystal White Pearl is an improvement over the Rally White goes without saying. Looks just like normal white until the sun hits it. Very impressive. It gets peoples attention. I have had more comments on both cars than anything else I have owned.

Some bitches I had with the 04 have been solved and some have not. Was pleasantly suprised to see color matching vinyl over the paint just below the rear door on the lower trim. My 2004 had serious bad paint chips from gravel there.

Head lights still do not have an auto off. I always run with headlights on and therefore I carry a quick start battery for those times when I forget to turn them off. Has happened often.

The split 5 spokers are growing on me. Didn't like them at first.

We finally have intermittent wipers with a selection of speeds. Grandkids love the rear arm rest. Upholstery is easier to keep clean compared to the 04. Too bad all my blue interior door, dash, dead pedal, floor mats and shifter don't go with the maroon in the new car.

Have 1200 miles on the car and looking foreward to the next 100,000. Bought an Ipod so I don't have to carry CD's. Now what do I do with the 6 cd changer?

If you like your 3, stay away from the Kia drivers.

Thanks for the review. With all the buzz about the MS3 it's nice to see someone else post just about anything about my future car. I have an Aurora Blue 2007 3s Touring with the moonroof/cd, rear bumper step plates, and wheel locks on order. I am buying the car virtually sight-unseen, because I have been living overseas for the last six years. I hope to get the car the day after I land back there.

I will be watching this space for any additional information. I'm not much of an audiophile, but I do appreciate a decent sounding system. Let me know what you think of the iPod through the aux input. I've heard the headphone jack doesn't deliver the best sound.

Good luck with your car, and be careful out there.

I think I had seen some of your postings. The wait for the new 3 must be painful. I know I can go make an excuse and drive to the store if I need some wheel time.

This is my work car and the three weeks without it was bad. I had to drive my old work car, a 2000 Caravan. Almost killed myself a few times merging into traffic. I was used to the Zoom Zoom.

I have a few to many years (65) on my ears to be a great judge of car sound systems, but in order to not clutter up my interior with CDs I purchased a SanDisk Sanza. It very neatly mounts just behind the shifter, with some Velcro, and with the cup holder open you can route the audio cable along side the lid in the vertical position and never notice it. My audiophile grandson says it sounds "very good". I assume that is approval. Sounds great to me.

One item I didn't mention in my earlier post is the headlights. The 04 was one of the best systems I have owned, but the 07 is even better. On low beams it has a distinct cutoff at the top, but the coverage is better. On high beams it really puts out the light. Distance coverage greatly improved. Don't know how much better the HIDs would be, plus I hate the blue lights approaching me.

I also mounted an XM SkiFi2 unit right over the ash tray location and the wires disappear into the the ashtray. Looks factory. I hate wire clutter.

I am still waiting for a compass/dimming mirror, step plates and a bra. My 04 had accumulated a bunch of nicks from the gravel on our roads and the summer bugs were something else to wash off. Bra was a must. The factory one I got the 04 was not a great fit on one side, so this time I am installing it before I leave the dealer and will return it if the fit isn't correct.

Roger, as you do mess with MP3's... have you had the opportunity to try an MP3 CD in to see if the stock CD changer will play them back?

Hello and welcome to the boards.
Man, you have done what i been wanting to do.
I also have an 04 and i have been seriously thinking about going for the 07 as it has so many more and better options than we early adopters had.
I salivate at the thought of heated seats, stock HIDs and MP3 aux in line.

So how much did you pay for yours? any incentives at all? how about a loyalty discount?
Good rates? How does it compare to when you bought the 04?

I am impressed, it is not too often that we get old folks (just kidding) in here. I am sure your grandkids are happy to have a cool grandpa. Good luck with the car and glad to hear that the improvements to the 07 are somewhat significant.

I have not tried the mp3 cds, but will have my grandson make up one and give it a try. So far the Sansa has been great. 2 gigs and 500 songs. For me that is enough, but I know some of you want to carry your entire collection.

I purchased the car from Hanover PA Champion Mazda, where I bought my last one. I was very pleased over the last two years with their service department. I had some small problems with the early suspension and they replaced all the shocks, rear springs and the sway bar to suspension joints, which by the way are very upscale. Not just a pin with some bushings, but a heim (sp) joint, like ball joint. Very upscale..

The car was a Touring with CD changer/sunroof, wheel locks and the optional paint. Listed at $ 20,400 and I got it for $19,200. They shopped the interest rate and I got 6.24 for 60 months. My 04 was about 18,500 (approx), but the equipment difference it sizable. My old one had sunroof/cd, anti-locks and head curtain air bags, which were options. In 04 they had a 3.9% rate and the 3 had not quite caught on yet in may of 04, so they dealt in PA where the Baltimore dealers would not cut the price.

Over the 27 months I got an average of 28 mpg (no fish story) and had a high of 34 Mpg on a trip from Charleston WV to Baltimore (mountains) and I did have the AC off. Loved the car, that is why I bought another. The only car that I was seriously considering besides the 3 was the 5. But already had a van. The 5 will replace my Caravan when it dies. If you like the 3, the 5 is very close in handling, but that is another story.

Waiting now for the extras I ordered from the dealer and the Pedal Set from Xenon Man. Should be here tomorrow. Will report on those.

Any of you have a blue interior 3???

Washed her again today for the 4th time in two weeks. Keeps raining right after I get her all shined up. Will take some pics tomorrow in the sunlight and post.

Roger :)

I will take kindly to the "old folks" thing as I earned the title. Still gotta have the left pedal and a engine that loves to rev. Started off years ago with an Oldsmobile powered Hudson D Gasser. None of the "Oldies" hold a candle to these cars. My other fun car is a 86 Fiero coupe with a 3800 SuperCharged Bonneville 3800 V6 and a 5 speed. Engine puts out about 250 hp. Koni's, eibachs and bright red paint.

The 3 is FUN and I get to drive it every day. My salesman said he did not have another customer as excited by the car. Excited I am and my Grandson wants one too, but at 19 he is talking MS 3. Don't know how his insurance agent will take to that.

The only downside to the 07 that I can see is the 36/36 instead of the 48/50. But the trade is the equipment and I can see NO downgrade in the build. Those folks in Hiroshima know how to build and paint a car.

Hey touring roger where do you live? I have a kia rio and I would love to smashed into your new car. lol.

I live at 1600 Pennsy Ave DC and normally you will have to crash into my Black Suburban with the Secret Service boys on board. Don't worry they won't bother you.

If you hit something with a Kia Rio going fast enough you might disappear.

Rog (enguard)

(rofl)... ^^^^ look out for any secret service following VIPs around in a mazda3... (rofl)

I am always observant for Black 3s with suits in them. When I went looking for my car seems all I found were Black Mica.

Got in the Mazda 3 aluminum pedal and dead pedal set today and installed them. Look great, but were a pain to drill the holes. Finally used an angle drill and had to go buy lock washers. Will post a picture.

Rog:)

i was thinking of picking that set up myself as i haven't liked any a/m ones i have seen really.... pics!!!

Hmmm maybe i'll just go drive into the nearest mazda 3 I find. There is a large mazda dealer in my town.... Hmmmmmm :)

I think Rio Racer needs a life.

I am going to try to post pics of the installed pedals.

Again, I would make sure you have a drill with 90 deg head and I would cover the peads with masking tape to keep damage from wayward drill bits and accidently bottoming out the drill (leaves marks)..

Haven't driven it yet with the pedals installed.

Now that I see how the attachments work, here is a closeup of the pedals.

Also a picture of my 04 after the "accident". She hit me hard enough to drive me sideways into the dirt along the road. I had no injuries and not even a sore left arm. Car really did its job.

I had just put 4 Michieln Exaltos on it. Eries Ins gave me extra on the settlement to cover them.

The pedals look great. I added the website to my growing list of bookmarks. Without actually having the car, all I can do is obsess about what I will do when I get it. Unfortunately, your old 3 looks as bad as the new 3 looks fantastic. It seems you have turned a negative into a very positive. It's good to hear you weren't injured, and your insurance came through.

I have my moving orders, and will most likely be picking up my new 3 on 23 December. That's not that long now. The only problem is I probably won't be able to bring my bike back with me. The EPA is such a killjoy. If anyone knows anything about importing bikes into the U.S. please give me a shout.

I hadn't noticed the 2.3 badge on other photos I have seen. I would like to remove all badging on mine. Does anyone know if those are just stuck on the surface, or if there are attachment pins and corresponding holes in the sheetmetal.

Roger, roger that.
Xenon expert are sponsors here and they have greatproducts; i got my HIDs form them. I had not checked out their pedals but those are really nice.

Jack. You shoudl check out the authorized vendors and sponsors of this site; they have great products and great deals.
As far as removing the badges, man it is piece of cake. Theya re just glued on and you can use file it down with some dental floss and little elbow grease. Other people have painted them a diff color; i have them in a nice carbon black, and some others have it in white or red. It is just another option.
I painted mines; removed the door protection; and repositioned my 2.3 badge a little lower on the door. It looks better IMO.
