I truly don't know.

As to reading, I'll site only a couple of references as to not be too boring. Recently the Wall Street Journal reported known oil reserves are not as robust as previously thought. Which means more drilling, which means more cost to produce which means higher prices to you and I.

Last winter in The Week they were outlining the pressures on prices most were obvious, population increases, economic advances for a higher percentage of population growth and the climate cycle. As powerful as those pressures are; US consumption has the biggest impact. Most industrialized nations limit consumption through taxes. The US does not and that is leading the world and us to crazy time.

I think the $90.00 per barrel figure comes from Boone Pickens. He made the statement that without speculators the price of oil would be $80-90 per barrel. I believe he's a long time speculator so I wonder about his motivation.

The funny thing about speculation is that it doesn't work without market demand. At $5.00 people are beginning to think about oil, "I drive 100, 70, 50 etc. miles to work and I think a Priass is hot". If $6.00 slows consumption enough $7.00 won't happen let alone $10.00.

None of these reasons take into account the biggest user of oil on the planet, the US government. Allowing the Feds to buy oil on credit may have the biggest impact on our price of fuel.

Bottom line it doesn't hurt to prepare. That is why I bought a ms3. I can have(wow) @ 25 miles per gallon.

Funny when you think Bush was...is...in the oil business...and what happens to oil prices as soon as he enters the office?

All this gets me sick...oh well, what can we do? Just take it in(butthump)...

Oil prices would have gone up slightly due to higher demand (China and India), but with the Iraq war taking out Iraqi oil plants and such...plus spending 7 billion a month or is it a week on war...hmmm, that leaves us scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I hate this administration so much!!!!(argh)

Bush's fault! Ha! That is too funny... I hope it was meant as a joke... He has been in office for almost 8 years and I can remember buying gas for a little over $1.30 / gallon just 3 years ago...

Happy and Angry... Great posts. Around here, the difference between premium and regular gas is usually .30 - .40 cents. Hardly enough to justify a different vehicle or selling your MS3.

I am still amazed how many people buy turbo charged 263 HP cars and then complain about the gas mileage. What did you expect? Go buy a Accent, a base model Sentra, or a Prius... then you can complain.

Finally... the very first post mentioned the MS3 was a sub 22K car? Where the hell did you buy yours? Considering the base "sport" model MSRP is $22.3K without a single option, I don't think we can call this a sub 22K car. Sub 24K sounds a lot more realistic. (And before you start quoting me invoice prices, go see what the majority of people pay -- Edmund's TMV is a good indicator.) And let's not forget about tax and title too. I didn't include those....

i got my car for $21200. (or was it $21600?). either way, in my personal world, it is a sub 22k car. i didnt include taxes and fees, because that money represents other groups with their hands out. i bought the car in oakland, ca.

I think you are a rare exception. There is a guy selling a used one right now in another post for $21K with close to 18,000 miles.

Most people paid $23-24K for them based on the "What did you pay? posts.

Obama is a bigger NOOOOOOO! than McCain. If he gets elected, I will be taxed to the point of poverty. That is one of the plans he has stated. A redistribution of wealth. Why have 25% in poverty when you can put 100% into near-poverty?

At $50k per year, Obama is not going to be a problem. He is really only looking to raise taxes for those making $250k+.

If you care at all about the financial world, McCain is a big mistake. While he is by far the most acceptable Republican (for me), his policies still leave much to be desired.
