oil filter

has any one ever had a problem gettin the filter off for the first oil change..i did it today with dexter and captainkrm p5..and damn near took us all damn day......why was it so hard to take off

The first time is always the hardest... That sounds funny but its true.. They are on TIGHT from the factory.. Which is why most people take it in for the first oil change.. Do a search and tons of other people have had the same problem.. glad you got it though...

i just went to mazda and said it was impossible and thay took it off, i gave them the oil and the new filter and they did it for free! its always good to be friends with your master tech.

you know they make a big oil filter socket that you can put on the end of it, it really helps with the first time, then oil the o-ring and hand tighten it from then on out

Next time try wrapping a bunch of rubber bands around the filter in order to get a better a grip on it.

Yeah, the first is definitely the toughest. Good thing my dealer gave me the first oil change free from the dealership.

But those grease monkeys forgot to screw the oil cap back on. :wtf:

Oh, you can also wear some latex gloves to increase the grip on the filter.

heh, i just started changing my own oil. i will never again go and let someone charge me 20 dollars to change my oil and filter.

kept in mind that this 20 dollars is just for the labor, i always took them a k&n oil filter and mobil1 oil.....

lol, i had to remove my intake mani brace, and use a cresent wrench. the screwdriver trick just shredded the metal casing.

Heehee... I just plain hate the location of the oil filter... I like being above the engine when I remove the filter, like in my RX-7 and my old Volvo... I think a filter relocation kit is in my future. =)

yeah we tried the jammin a screw driver into it..that was one of kens ideas...damn thing wouldnt perice..just dented..tried belts....and evenutlly got the fitted wrench and it came right off

Gotta love RX-7 oil changes. You barely even have to get underneath the car since the filter is right on top of the engine.
