Oil Change?

i used to change the oil before 3,000 miles, now that my car just decides to burn oil I just add oil every * single day pretty much. So I havent got an oil change in about 4 - almost 5,000 miles. but my car has been burning that oil for a long time. No problems.

Glad that's working out for you, but I hope you are at least planning to change the filter out occasionally.

How many miles are on the car? I haven't heard about any real issues with oil consumption on these engines.

Wiat...you consider burning enough oil that you have to top up each day 'no problems'!?
These cars have issues when boosted. It isn't that they are usually burning oil so much as they are spewing it out the PCV (even with the millenia PCV). I was down almost a quart at barely over 1k miles since I turboed the car (nailbyt)

And to confirm Andrew's answer to Mark's question, the capacity is 4 quarts with that filter (though isn't it 3.4 stock? the filter doesn't seem that much larger weird). I know now that I have a turbo with it's feed line and such (well that can't really store that much oil in it at all but oh well) 4 quarts seems to do fine.

If it's blow by that's different. Not necessarily good, but not as bad as if it's burning oil. Plus he never said his was boosted

I'm actually changing the oil today or tomorrow, I just bought the new oil mobil 1 10w-30 full syn. and a k&n oil filter. I don't care what oil filter I use but I don't think I've tried the k&n one up until now.

Been using mobil one since the first oil change, when I changed to fully synt.
about to be at 49,500 miles give or take I'm not looking at my cluster.

I use a V6 filter. So what would most people say about the K&N vs. OEM filters?

What's the purpose of the bigger 626 filter for our car?

It adds a little bit more oil capacity, but mostly it gives you more filter surface area and hopefully a little better oil flow.

I use Amsoil full synthetic with their 1 year filter ($12 filter). I change about once a year.

1 year filter...that's interesting.

I try to change before 3,000, but sometimes I'll go a little longer, but I run full synthetic, so it's not the end of the world to do it at 5,000. I use the Mobile 1 filter, but if I'm low on $$ I'll use whatever it there.

Amaff, I like your new sig.

So to clear up some of my confusion, the 626 V6 filter will screw on to the engines as a direct replcement for the standard filter? No changes or modifications necessary right?

Yes, it's the same thing only about 20% taller. Only difference is that it is more filter media & you can go with 4 quarts instead of 3.7. Purolator pure one micronic filters run 5.99 for you budget minded folks.

Yeah if I ever run out of Mazda filters and it's a sunday (so the parts department at the local dealership that charges 17.99 for the filter isn't open) I just pick up a purolater pure one.. I've only done it once or twice though.

They do a great job at filtering, don't know if the pressure specs and such are exactly what the mazda filters are though.
