Oil Change at my first 1000km?

I've heard some people say to get an oil change at my first 1000km to flush out the metals in the oils for new cars in the past. With a new technologies now, do we still need to do that?

Not in my opinion. I feel that you can change out the first fill too early and thereby not give the assembly lubs and or additives a chance to allow the moving parts to be broken-in without scuffing. My vehicles are supplied with a factory oil filter to future protect my engine. Ed

When I bought my new Honda Civic, they stated to leave the "break in" oil in for at least 3,000 miles, not to change it out any sooner than that. But, that's the only car I've ever heard that.

I would not change it... Just change it when it's time for the 1st oil change (6 months or 7500 miles, depend on schedule you follow)

With these modern engines, I start thinking about an oil change at 5,000 miles, and make sure I get it in before 7,000 miles. I'm at approx 2,800 miles so far, so, about half way to my first oil change.

I follow the scheduled interval for oil changes and will be going at 8000 kms for the first oil change. I have followed this practice with all 3 Mazdas that I have owned (and this is my second CX5). Never had any issues.

Stick to the scheduled maintenance is what I would suggest.

With my previous car(VW Golf 5-Rabbit), we were told to replace our engine's oil at 5k miles. Then VW changed their maintenance policy, it was free for three years. Then it was OK to change it at 10k!!
When you pay for it, then it's every 5k, if they have to pay for it, then it's 10k!?

That's only 600 miles!

Leave the factory oil in at least 3,000 miles (if not 5,000) for proper break-in.

Don't try to out-think the factory that made it.

1,000 KM = ~ 620 miles which is way to soon to change the first fill. I'm with MikeM. Wait at least 3,000 miles minimum to change if your not going to follow the manufactures recomendation. Ed
