OH MY GOD Atlanta is having a run on Gas

Prices are all over the place in Jersey. As low as $2.79 for regular up to $3.50 for regular. It's only a temporary surge, it will (a) stabilize in the next couple days, and (b) return to the prices they were before the hurricane in a couple of weeks.

Crazy things happen when the oil supply is interrupted. We just need to deal with them for the time being. Not like we have a choice on the matter...so no point in bitching about prices.

It seems so short of a time ago that we were all bitching about gas costing close to (and over in some areas) TWO DOLLARS A GALLON.

Just a couple of months ago I was frustrated at having to pay $2.30 a gallon for 93 octane. Now I find myself wishing for the prices I once complained about.

LOL i work in a shell gas station here in south florida and today was too busy a line for 25 to 50 cars filling up their cars , LOL that s*** is so bad but damm people are so stupid i hate that the prices here are $3.20 a gallon for premium

Couple limited supply for the Atlanta (Southeast US) region with the fact that 90% of oil production in the gulf is now shutdown and you get a little bit of confusion. I heard tonight on the news that the oil production in the gulf currently amounts to 50% of the production for the US. If we can't even get that 5% that we consume from our own supplies, then we become wholly dependent on other suppliers. That makes people nervous...

You're right. If the mayor told me to get the F out of dodge ('because that's usually what they do when the storms aren't that bad), I'd tell him to get bent. I'd stay at home and potentially risk death just to try to protect all my junk. Because I know my life is NOT worth more than...say...$200K. (deadhorse

If I had no wheels, I'd take all my irreplaceable stuff (photos & important docs.) put them in a garbage bag, put that garbage bag in a duffle bag and get to steppin'. If I couldn't afford to stay in a hotel (I would hope they would make some kind of accommodation for the people displaced by the hurricane) I'd sleep in my car...or if I didn't have a car, I'd sleep on the street (homeless people do it all the time) and if I was lucky, I might get arrested for it and get a roof over my head for a little while.

Or maybe I have no clue.

you dont have a clue... people have what we call pride and dignity some have work so hard to have maybe a small slice of what you have. Its hard to up and leave it to live on the street when a storm is coming (that doesnt make sense to me). Shelters are no walk in the park... esp in lower income areas. The people you see looting generally come from these shelters because they made it through the storm.

Some people can only afford to send thier kids away and do that instead of themselves. I dont think you have the right to judge someone untill you are in thier shoes.

Maybe its just me but everyone seems to think people are rushing to the gas stations before the "shortage" ... I think its more due to the fact that we all know the prices are going up no matter what -- so get it while its cheapest
