Official 2011 Mazda5 Thread

it'd be cool if there was a 'kit' that could be purchased to install it yourself. maybe that would avoid NHTSA regs?

Here we go, let the Mazda3-esque comments begin: "I'm so glad I got the previous model", "the new one is so ugly", "I'm glad I got the last Protege before the ugly Mazda3 showed up", "my 09 MS3 is much better than that 10 one, yuck, it does not have that big bass mouth, the interior is horrible"

LOL ;)

J/k, j/k (but as soon as I saw the pics and I drove my car, it already felt dated :))

Let Mazda put some non-ricy aero kit (rear spoiler and side sills) and that thing with 6MT is on business (naughty) IMO

oh come on!

doesnt your 08 look better than your 06?

and i am happy i bought a protege... and not a 3!

(you just want to get a new 5, and ditch the "aging" 06)

Man, it looks nice but not a big fan of those style lines on the side of the vehicle. Other then that I like it. Cant wait to test drive 6spd manual, but wont hold my breath.

Perhaps Mazda will replace the karakuri seat with the Ford [Grand] C-Max's setup, which will be US DOT compliant. Look where the 7th seat stows - under the passenger 2nd row.

I hope the N.A. 2011 Mazda5 will have seats like these with the middle seat included. They look so comfortable unlike the ones they have now. And maybe add a little leg room in the 3rd row if this car actually gets bigger.
I can deal with the smiles in the front and the lower rear lights are fine (hopefully giving you more shoulder/cargo room) but the lines on the sides somehow got lost.
They should redesign that. It sure looks like wrinkles cause I see curves and straight lines. Somehow it doesn't match and they clash each other. (hand)

I don't know about the rest of you but I like the 2nd row, I usually fall asleep there.

I've thought about retrofitting 7th seats into the 5... weld a seatbelt assembly to the frame, convert the fold out tray into a fold out cushion, and replace the armrests with a seat cushion, anchored to one seat only so they retain individual fore/aft movement. Just that there would be serious insurance liability issues if I get into an accident even though it'll be safe.

What makes you think it will be a 2.5 liter engine? I would prefer the direct injected 2.0 liter engine offered in the European version...coupled with a 6 speed manual. They better not drop the manual and just use the 2.5 here in NA. If so it will be Fords and Rondos for me.

I don't want the 2.5 litre. Give us the direct injected 2.0 liter with 6 speed manual and I will be happy. If it is good enough for Europe it is good enough for here.

:) to be honest I always liked the 06 looks better (the 08 wheels really grew on me though), but yes, it will go first. I love my cars but I'm getting bored of having the same one, I might change to another type of car in the future, I just need to solve a little problem first: $$$ :D

Ok... this is how I feel about the new Mazda5.

1. I am ok with most of the exterior change. I like the new tail lights, at least it is not ebay's "Atlezza" looking anymore.

2. I am ok it is not brand new, just like the Mazda3. It mean the Mazda5 still share a lot of parts with the Mazda3 to me, and I like that.

3. I can care less about the 7th Karakuri seat.

4. I like the interior, more European feel now

5. Last thing is if they dont offer MT for Touring I will switch to C-Max.

So, where is Mazdas suggestion box?

I gotta say it, I'm a hater. Don't think the 07 is ever going to be traded in, best looking fascia imo. The 08 up interiors are nicer though, but they went backward with the 2011. Nope, there's not much there that makes me want one. Bummer, Mazda had soo much momentum and their new lineup is going to kill it. I hope I'm wrong, hell people bought into the scion boxes.

I'm sure you can get the manual...in the cheapest, most stripped down version. No upscale sport, no good options. So much for zoom-zoom.

It has become cramped. My kids use that middle aisle to move from 2nd row seat to the 3rd row seat and vice versa.

It is like a piece of land.. whereas before there was bigger 'open space', in 2011 they have to fill that middle aisle with a middle seat.
And now the 3rd row passengers are cut off from the rest. Trapped.

But I will find a way to remove the 2nd row middle seat. And share the information in the 'how to section'.

hmmm. to each their own, but i wont get a new 5.

im interested in the possible new engines though. if they make it to the US.

Thank You Mazda :) The resale on my 06 with 5mt will now hold steady as demand will remain and there will be no new supply. Just know that I won't be buying the new 5 without the MT. Just hope that Ford doesn't make the same mistake with the C max, and maybe Chevy will get its head out of its backside and put the MT in the Orlando. By the way, the new look, in my opinion, is beyond ugly. As others have said, it now looks like a minivan Guess I will have to go elsewhere for my tough to define sporty vehicle in the future.

Just came back from the car show this weekend and the guys at Mazda where saying that there is no hope for a redesigned Mz-5 for 2011, since the Mz-2 is coming to town and they don't want to heart the sales of it...

They also showed me the new design that will be available in Europe for 2011 maybe http://www.salon-auto.ch/en/exposants/tribune/world-premiere-of-all-new-mazda5-at-geneva_0-11290 (link already available in this thread), but said it would not be before 2012 or so...

Mazda 5 hurting MX-2 sales? Like someone's going to go into a Mazda dealership undecided which one (s)he's going to buy.

"Honey, I know I was supposed to go buy the new Mazda 5 but..."

Judging by how many people in the Owner's Quiz thread said they'd seriously consider a Honda Fit if the 5 never existed, I can see the 2 taking some sales away from the 5.

What ruins the new design for me is the side waves. I don't like but could probably learn to live with the front and rear redesigns but those side waves are just plain f-ugly.

A few years ago, while my 5 GT white was parked in my driveway just after it had been cleaned, a guy walking in the street, stopped to ask me a few questions about the van. I was almost in shock when he told me that he was hesitant between a Honda Fit and a Mazda 5!!! I said: come on!! You're not in the same bracket at all, even though the Fit kinda look like a wagon...

What the guys where also saying, its that when the Mazda 3 came out with its last update, no other major changes where made to any other models, simply to avoid "stealing" sales for the Mz3...

They also added that if there is any other models that will go through the cake pan, it will be the Tribute.. Before the Mazda 5.

And to answer your comment, professorhank, the new design of the Mz5 looks really close to the Ford C-max, available only in Europe.. And this "happy face" type in the front, same as the new 3, not really my cup of tea....
