2007 Subaru WRX STI Limited

Limited to just 800 units, this U.S.-only STI variant is aimed at the shy, quiet wannabe banzai rally driver. The transformation from wild-child base STI to the business casual STI Limited was achieved primarily by swapping the regular car's gargantuan rear wing and roof-vane spoiler for a far more subtle, single decklid spoiler. The Limited also gets foglamps, a front air dam, unique Enkei wheels, and black Brembo calipers in place of the usual gold grippers. Inside, heated leather seats, satellite radio, and a sunroof improve the livability. Of the 800 cars, half will be painted white and half will be gray.

But is it just me or does Honda not turbo cars? I mean they make some nice strong engines that can handle it but they always leave them naturally aspirated it seems.

Dude, where have you been? This news has been out for about 5 months now and speculation for about a year. (wink)

Also, Honda has been using turbocharged engine for many years in racing.

2007 Honda Element SC Prototype Emphasizes Style and Performance
Production version to go on-sale this fall

An all-new urban-oriented counterpart to the Honda Element will debut this fall with an exclusive sport suspension, larger wheels and tires, unique styling and special features like a carpeted interior and a center console, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today at the 2006 New York International Auto Show.
With performance more than skin deep, the Element SC prototype rides 3-inches lower than stock with a sport suspension that delivers sports car-like handling. A front-to-rear aerodynamic body kit further lowers the vehicle's stance, supplementing the new vehicle's performance direction with a ground-hugging presence. High on sophistication, the Element SC smoothly stands out with exclusive features such as fully-painted exterior panels and trim pieces, projector-beam headlights and an aero-enhanced black grille. The interior further complements the city performance demeanor with a driver-oriented center console, copper hue instrument panel lighting backlit with LEDs, piano black trim and a carpeted floor.
"The Element SC prototype is the city-dwelling, style-conscious brother of the original Element," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda. "Instead of features that accommodate outdoor sports and similar activities, the Element SC injects a new dimension of sophistication into the lineup that can best be characterized as 'night performer.'"
The exterior styling expresses a sophisticated, performance-oriented attitude with SC-exclusive features that include projector beam headlights, custom front bumper, lowered suspension, large alloy wheels, custom grille and a slightly lowered roofline (trim effect).
To match the outside, the exclusive interior takes on an entirely new personality with a center console that has enclosed storage areas ideal for mobile phones and MP3 players. Additional exclusive features include trim accents that correspond to the copper-colored illumination.
The 2007 Element SC prototype has a 2.4-liter, DOHC, i-VTEC engine that benefits from a 10 horsepower increase over the 2006 Element, bringing the total to 166 horsepower (SAE net revised 8/04). The increase is achieved primarily through the addition of high-flow intake and exhaust systems and high-lift camshafts. Additional enhancements include drive-by-wire throttle control. A 5-speed manual transmission is standard, and the available automatic transmission has five forward gears instead of four.
Fulfilling the goals of Honda's "Safety for Everyone" initiative introduced in 2003, all 2007 Elements will provide a core suite of standard safety equipment that goes beyond existing regulations and includes side curtain airbags, driver's side impact airbag, front passenger's side impact airbag, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) and ABS.
The 2007 Honda Element also introduces an Integrated Seat Belt System on the front seats that allows rear seat occupants to exit the vehicle without the need for a front occupant to disconnect his or her seatbelt. In place of the existing B-pillar, door-mounted shoulder strap, the new Integrated Seat Belt System shoulder strap originates from the top of the seat and helps to enhance vehicle ingress/egress convenience for rear passengers. The Element SC prototype features custom 21-inch cast aluminum alloy wheels, 245/35R21 high-performance custom tires, and 4-wheel disc brakes with large brake rotors and custom copper-appearance brake calipers. The combination of the sport-tuned suspension and aggressive wheel and tire package results in an urban utility vehicle that handles like a sports car. A production vehicle based on the Element SC prototype will go on sale this fall.

2007 Suzuki XL-7

Suzuki just debuted the all-new XL7 at NY. This vehicle, which shares the Chevy Equinox platform, is light years ahead of the old outgoing model; and like its smaller SX4 brotherextremely roomy. Other than the name, the only other thing it shares with the old XL7 is 3-row seating ability.

It comes with a 3.6L DOHC V6, a 5-speed automatic, and will be on sale in the fall.

2007 Suzuki SX4

"Big things comes in small packages." That should be Suzuki's tagline for their new SX4. This tiny SUV has a ton of room. I'm 6'4" and had no problems fitting in either the front or rear seats. Even the trunk area is very roomy.

It comes with a 2.0L engine and 3-mode AWD (FWD, AWD, 4WD-lock), which the driver can toggle back and forth, as he/she sees fit. It also comes with a choice of a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. Suzuki expects the SX4 to start around $16K.

2007 Kia Sorento

embedded..ee90871

On the Kia stand located in the lower level of the convention hall, Len Hunt, Kia's charismatic executive vice president and COO said, "Everyone knows the best stuff at Macy's is in the basement, and the same is true here."

The 2007 Kia Sorento gets 36 percent more horsepower from a new aluminum 3.5-liter V6 engine, and boasts an upgraded interior, too.

Two-and four-wheel drive options are available with either LX or EX trim, and a Sport package can be added to the LX, and a Luxury package to the EX.

Only transmission option is a five-speed automatic that can be shifted as a manual.

Honda Civic GX Natural Gas

embedded..ee90858

Honda announced that the Civic GX, which runs on natural gas, will be available for sale next month. Sales will begin in California, and then spread to other states.

The vehicle will be available with a pump, so that if your home uses natural gas, you will be able to fill your car over night! This is a great feature, and should make the vehicle a real possibility to many out there. The cruising range of the vehicle is 250 miles.

Mini Cooper S GP

At today's press conference Mini showed off the most exclusive Cooper yet. It starts off as a Mini Cooper S, but once you add the John Cooper Works GP kit it becomes lighter, faster and available only in limited quantities. Pay more to get less, it's a classic marketing ploy. If you want one better get your order in soon as there will only be 415 available for purchase in the U.S.

2007 Saleen/Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustang

Front_3Q.jpg

Not satisfied with Ford’s own "California Special" Mustang? A muscle car brought to you by Hertz not making your blood boil? Then perhaps Steve Saleen can light a fire under your ass with his new Saleen/Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustang that not only does a great job harkening back to the past with visuals inspired by Jones’ own Grabber Orange Boss 302 Mustang from the early ‘70s, but also adds to the Mustang’s moxy with a 302 cid V8 that produces 370 SAE hp and 370 ft-lbs. of torque at a low, low, low 4,000 RPM. Further engine upgrades allow Steve’s new Stang to rev higher than most Mustangs ever will.

Other special touches include 302 valve covers, a black striped “shaker” hood, a 1970 replica rear wing and rear window quarter panels. There are even removable and reusable static cling decals included, one of Parnelli’s famous number 15 and the other a blue oval logo.

Suspension and brake upgrades as well as an interior tweak that invites the orange inside round out the 2007 Saleen/Parnelli Jones Limited Edition Mustang. While we don’t know how many units will be produced, we do know they’ll be sold in the mid-to-high $50,000 range.

i am really happy to see someone making something other than a barely-more-efficient hybrid. unfortunately with the natural gas prices lately i wonder how much cheaper this will actually be - like the civic hybrid - than the normal civic

ouch. I'd like a CNG car, but it would need to have a cruising range a lot farther than 250 miles. My protege can go a lot farther than that on a tank, and since who the hell knows where you can refuel them, I'd need to be able to get from school back home on a single tank.

Chris you need to buy an Altima. When I go to visit my parents in Watkins Glen, NY I can almost get 500 out of the 20 gallon tank. I bet the QR25 gets more.

20 gallon tank for the win. The QR25 can get 500 out of a tank, I know because I've done it. My mom's old 03 Altima was a 2.5SL (automatic of course because the 03 SL was only available as an automatic).

I seem to get really bad mileage with her VQ 05 Altima though.. must be something about loving the sound of that engine at 6k RPMs :)

20 gallon tank FTW!

I get really good mileage with my 03 VQ and I'm always into the pedal all the time. I know what you mean about the sound of the engine at 6K rpms. I want to add an intake and exhaust to heard that sound all the time.

2006 Scion tC Release Series 2.0

What is it?
2006 Scion tC Release Series 2.0

What's special about it?
Faraway from the excitement of the Fuse concept unveiling, a Scion tC dressed in Blue Blitz Mica Metallic paint sat across from the FedEx booth on the upper level of New York's Javits Center. This is the tC Release Series 2.0 and only 2,600 will be built for 2006. We're looking at No. 3 in the run, according to the stainless-steel plaque at the top of the car's center stack.

Before you get too excited, be advised that the tC RS 2.0 is not a performance enhancement. A TRD supercharger is not included. Powering the car's front wheels is the same 160-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder found in every other Scion tC.

Instead, the RS 2.0 option basically provides a little more stuff and a little more exclusivity for $1,960 above the tC's $16,300 base price. Its Blue Blitz paint is an exclusive, for instance, as is the car's debadged steel mesh grille. The 17-inch wheels are no larger than the ones on regular tCs, but they wear a satin finish.

Inside, the seats are upholstered in black Alcantara. Scion says it "provides passengers better friction grip and is more commonly found in luxury or performance vehicles and on aftermarket racing seats." We say it'll come in very handy during that hard left into the Denny's parking lot. And it does look nice.

Also included in the Release Series 2.0 package is the iPod-ready Pioneer sound system, complete with a 35-watt subwoofer, color-changing head unit display and a three-month subscription to XM. Front-seat side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags are standard as well.

You can get the tC RS 2.0 with either the five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.

What's Edmunds' take?
The average tC buyer is just 25 years old, according to Scion, which means college campuses are getting overrun with the semi-sporty, affordable coupe. Here's how to make yours stand out, provided you have an extra $2 grand lying around after writing that tuition check. — Erin Riches
