OBX Header Under $200 dollars??

he didnt make his own resisitor, i just saw him last saturday and when i told him what cel fix i ordered, he ordered the same one. secondly he says he doesnt think it fit right and he might have an exhaust leak where the header bolts to the block.a

Ok..Thanks for the info razor/mathew..I was just reading his threads...including his new one about his cel (something about missfiring)...I emailed him for some info about the header but he still hasn't responded back...

So you say he thinks he has an exhaust leak or he knows...Well did he torque it down properly? Also did you use the stock Gasket? Or did he do it right and purchase a new one?

Hey Razor...about the cel fix you ordered...does it work? Have you installed it? I wasn't sure which one to get...there is this one that linux...told me about...

that could be from the bolr diameters being different which from what I have heard is the only fitment issue besides the bungs.

I don't understand how that can be true...This engine (2.0L) is exactly the same between the ford probe and our protege!!! Except theirs doesn't have a few extra things like 2nd senor in the exhaust..or the 2nd cat!!

all im saying is, when you hook up your car, i would rather do it right...obx to me is too similar to APC

Well about the obx comment..Isn't the racing Mazda Header the Exact same one except for the Changes of the Bung Holes?? That's what i remember reading from the GB threads!!:D

lol, OBX is nothing liek APC from what I have seen...main difference is I never see OBX products in a checker or autozone like APC and have never heard of quality or any other problems for any OBX product....I loved my intake and strut bars on my eclipse I had and the quality was fine.

I dont know I just can justify, or let alone be able to, spend that much any time soon for the RM header....unfortunately, otherwise if money wasnt an issue I would have been in on the GB.

I agree..for the price of that racing mazda header I can get this header and purchase a new ACT CLUTCH! I am more about the dollar sign vs. the horsepower given!! The reason that most companies blow up the price of their merchandise is b/c people are willing to pay so much for their items!! Header's shouldn't cost more than 250 per piece! I mean..For the most part..i have seen mustang V8 Headers that are cheaper than the AWR HEADER/RM!!

Well my item was shipped..it looks like Tuesday/wednesday..will reiecieve it..and install it by Thursday/ Friday...

I NEED MORE INFO PEOPLE ABOUT HE MIL ELIMINATOR PLEASE HELP!!

they are located by me here in AZ and the cel fix they have is specifically for the pro's, Ben, the owner of that site/Co. is a great guy and is really interested in getting the protege family interested in his work.

He has already offered to sponsor the arizona mazda affiliation group if/when we get it started and he is very informative.

I heard the ponyexpress link u posted works fine also....there are a few peopel here that use each, I would check the RM threads or the forced induction forum for people using off road downpipes or whatnot.

That is basically what I understoof about the OBX/RM header, basically they are the same thing only for the extra 150+ dollars you get the 2nd bung pre welded and a test pipe(that I dont want).

So I am going to end up getting this OBX header through ebay and having Ben at apex do the little things(like the bung) for me...hell I have a welder at home I can have my dad do it if necessary.

.....hm that reminds me I need to email ben =)
 
The one I was going to get seems to be no longer available. It is the ECG O2 Sim. It uses a RISC processor instead of just a 555 timer and some circuitry. Super fast emulation! Not sure what to tell you.

Also..do you know anything about the fix..such as..what does it do? B/c in NJ..they actually plug into your obdII!!

i got my cel fix today, installing in about 15 minutes, and ill post the results

Yess..Razor..Please post results..I know some cel eliminators..work for like 500miles..than poof..cel all over again!

Also w/ this header..I heard many people say..that as you drive the car more w/ a new header the ecu relearns some maps (MP3 ECU)..and will not always give you good performace until it's been broken in...ANY TRUTH TO THIS?

i dunno, i guess ill figure it out soon enough...ill be really bummed if this eliminator s**** out in 500 miles, cause everything went well and seems to be running better...
 
The OBX header is s*** that is why it is cheap. U might get 1 year on it. And u will probably have to get a cEL eliminator. The hP racing NOPI header is cheap. Ceramic coating for $250. The AWR is race proven and i think they have figured out all the o2 sensor placements....But a header rarely passes a OBDII emissions check
 
none of them will pass, and you will need an eliminator with all the headers that remove cats.
 
and u know the OBX header is s*** because what??? Just saying that doesnt prove anything since it is damn close to the same thing as the racing mazda header since it is the one built for the 2.0L probe engine only theirs already has the bung welded in....I still dont get how your saying it si that much worse, especially if u havent seen it.
 
I believe this header is made of good quality! Hey akhellius, all headers will throw you a CEL. Have you ever bought one of these headers before because if you compare the picture of the racing mazda and the obx header, they're almost the same. Hey P5sundevil, did you get that header yet? I'm still saving!
 
I already ordered..will recieve probably on tuesday.and install by wednesday or thursday..depending on weather!!

I will post pics..and such..and maybe an audio clip/video!

thx acidbbg I am looking forward to your results...I would purchase it, razor, if I had the money...as usually the money I had set aside for this is beaing eaten by a bill that was never supposed to be(long story) and therefor that was an extra 120 out of my pocket.

Since I am in my last semester of being a full time student my work schedule doesnt afford me much over what pays for my bills and day to day living so saving takes me a little longer, it pisses me off alot but there is alittle I can do about it, I miss alot of good deals in the for sale forum because of these situations..

I am just lookin forward to january, no more school take a nice salary position that has already been offered to me and then the real modding will start. Again, infortunately the job requires me to move from AZ to WA. =(

it's unfortunate that you're moving away from this heat? sheesh! i'm DYING to get out of here. it's too friggin hot!!! washington is always cool. and at least you get seasonal rains instead of torrential monsoons.

The Obx Headers not all that bad. I had a leak at the header to the cat connection, I never installed the metal gasket. The reason some people have had problems with them is the mounting brackets on them (they will heat up and pull a hole in the headers) The OBX for the protege does not have any mounting brackets. It works great and you will need a CEL fix, I made my own, and y at least get to keep a second cat. PM me with questions.
 
i dont know if you saw the other thread he started after he installed and had a few problems with the install but you didnt have those problems?

I mean besides the header pulling away thing(which you say doesnt happen on the protege version) you think it was a clean install? I mean the leak can be accounted for by the gasket probably, as I would think any aftermarket part would bolt up to a stock part poorly without one.

I dont know, i had pretty much resided to waiting for the Ractive header they are finishing testing now and should be available for the public in a couple months. according to ractive, which means unlike SR motorsports or that other header where part numbers were made before they even though about production ractive has tested their prototypes and have decided to go ahead. just minor tweaking left I guess. they sent out part numbers to major dealers a week or two ago.

plus thats when I would have the money for it =)
 
how long has ractive been saying the header is going to be out? months. i told you you should save up and buy a quality header sundevil. awr or rm...theyre more expensive, but the best thing about them is they EXIST.
