Well, to run, you need gas and spark. You will want to confirm you are getting fuel. Then, make sure you are getting spark. There are fuel pressure guages out there.

The easy things to do are to replace the fuel filter and give it a tune up, plugs, wires, cap and rotor.

make sure the ground wire to your car is not all corroded. I have seen loose battery cables cause problems, too.

There are a multitude of reasons why it is shutting off, the good thing it is not specific to your brand.

I have seen cars not run for s*** because a catalytic converter was bag and all plugged up.

Do you have a Check Engine Light?

the check engine light comes on for a sec and goes out, it drive fine then stop at a light and shut off not want to start for like 10 minutes then start up and run good, i thought it was the tps sensor so i got one from a junk yard and it still does the same thing

The fact it comes on is a sign of something not right. It might be an oxygen sensor even. I have seen that happen before

Ive run into this very same problem before. My problem had nothing to do with the Engine support systems, rather a leaking blow off valve. or im sure in your case, a By Pass Valve located on the right side of the engine as you face it with the hood up.

Another one it could be is a loose intake hose or clamp. If your system is able to suck in air anywhere else after the turbocharger, then this would be a vacuum leak. This would cause your engine not to want to idle after driving, but also would be evident while driving as you would have a loss of power.

The third option, and this one is a b**** and part of the electrical control system and that would be your BAC Idle Air Control Valve. This is located on the left side of the intake manifold. It has a hose coming off the throttle body inlet pipe and from the valve, into the intake manifold itself. It also has to coolant lines going through it for engine temp readings. This valve is what makes the engine idle up when its cold. When I put my new engine in at the end of last year, mine started dieing on me every time I would stop. Some times it works its way loose and starts working again, but seldom. You can still get these through the dealerships, but these retail for nearly $800. Next option is to find a good used one which is harder then it sounds. There is no aftermarket replacement unfortunately. This also Only applys to the USDM version Intake Manifold. JDM manifolds are larger and do not utilize this valve.

For Mercury Capri Support, visit www.TeamCapri.com . There is alot of useful info and knowledgeable owners on that site.

Good Luck.
