You need to file a police report. The police can get the information from the bank so that charges can be filed against that person. BBB ain't going to do jack. Some serious charges are awaiting that person since it involved theft of mail and an IRS check. You should of called the minute you found out about it.

+1 to this. My MIL is a financial investigator for the State of FL and her job is to audit banks throughout the state. If there are enough complaints with that bank, the State will gladly get involved.

what about going into the bank at a really busy time, asking to speak with a manager and making a big, loud stink until they do something. Maybe you can embarass them into fixing the problem...

I got a letter from the treasury today stating they've reviewed my claim and approved another check for me. Nothing regarding who cashed it and nothing about the bank's mistake. I am a little curious but at least the money is coming.
