no power till 5500 rpm ???

If you get your car and coolant temps at the same level everytime and rev past 5500 you will notice that it is more ovbious when the car is warmed up. disconnect the VICS and you will notice that this problem will not occur. But you will loose low end torque because the butterflyes will always be closed.

Well after 4 hours of driving today my car was doing the same thing as at the track. I'm convinced the coolant temp is getting too high or the air temp is getting too high causing the ECU to pull timing or inject WAY too much fuel. I'm leaning towards it running rich, if it was timing the car wouldn't get a burst of energy, the power would remain flat. I guess once the VICS closes the AF leans out to normal.

bump for ideas... I'm going to be buying some gauges to monitor things soon to pin point the problem but I'd like any and all advice.

Closed/open loop switches between 3000 and 4000 rpm.
Sometimes it hits at 3000 sometimes at 4000. If it hits early it gets super rich. If it hits late its lean as s***. Can't really do s***.

I don't understand why it's waiting until 5500rpm to stop boggin though. The PCM should be going into open loop under the conditions the bogging is occurring(100% load, 100%throttle). I can modulate the throttle and at no point until 5500rpm will the motor accelerate with full power. The open to closed loop transition shouldn't be affecting the car for 2Krpms.

it's gonna take 2+hrs of driving to replicate my problem though :(

Megasquirt is sounding mighty tempting

Basically when the switch over occurs the AFR and timing is different.
The stock PCM sometimes kicks over at 3000 and then from 3000 to 4000 its pig rich below 10 AFR. If it kicks over later, it stays dangerously lean around 14.8 to 15.3 AFR till 4000. It bogs either way in both conditions.

The Stock PCM sucks.

My car does the same thing after warming up, it runs awesome cold, quick, no hesitation, I was told cold it runs an open loop or something...dunno, have no idea about this stuff. It pulls kinda until 3k, then hesistates, then takes off after 4k, then kicks in at 5.5k. I don't think I'm flashed, and I was also told that would help my issue, or I can just get the Unichip and be done with it. Too bad I can't afford a Unichip yet.

Well I'm flashed and have a UNichip, so don't hold your breath on those fixing it.

I just pulled my plugs and they had signs of detonation all over them...

i've been having the same problem with my msp....took it to the dealer yesterday, and the service manager told me that without a reading on the computer (the engine light is not one), it'd be like looking for needle in a haystack. then he tried to tell me that the turbo doesn't really kick in til about 5k....i called him on it and told him i know that's BS. then he got out the service manuals and found that a service bulletin came out on this issue. gonna take it in and have the plugs changed and the computer re-calibrated. hopefully it works....

They are just going to give you the MSP BS Re-flash. It does not totally fix the hesitation, although it may help a little.

yeah, i read the thread about that flash thing after i posted on this thread, sorry, i'm a newb on here. so....wtf am i gonna hafta do to fix it?

datalogged the car tonight and still had some wicked detonation. timing advance dropped down to 1-2* under full load... small amounts of detonation on the plugs. air temps were a consistant 108*F(ambient was 80*F). Coolant temps were 190-210ish*F during driving.

Gotta get the data from Moeed to do a full review, but I WAS able to recreate the hesitation/5500rpm blast.
