Recently had my turbo rebuilt and cleaned out all the pipes and made sure the lines were free of kinks and not blocked. Guess what, turbo is still pulling in oil and car smokes and skips. Awesome. So, called the company I had rebuild and check over the unit, hope I can find the receipt and have them check it over with their "year 100K warrenty". FML-NFG

Technician I'm having help thinks the turbo is faulty and causing the skips and smoke.

Anyone have problems with oil and their factory turbo? I had my center housing replaced and re-built and still leaked. So when I took it back in, I was made aware that there should be a restrictor valve on the inlet feed line. There wasn't one there when I took it apart. According to the Garrett Turbo dealer I took the unit to, on the ball bearing turbos, there should be a restrictor valve because they tend to take in more oil than they can dispose.

Was this a factory problem?

i dont think thats a factory issue... im not the most knowledgeable about the oil restrictors, just i know they have one from the factory.

Somehow, mine was missing then. When I took it apart, it wasn't there. At least it's only a $15 part.

Lets just hope it solves the smoke and misfire problem!

which is it?

factory turbos typically work fine until they wear out... (duh)... the restrictor is so you don't overpressurize the seals and blow oil out of them... ball bearings need very little oil compared to journal bearings...
