I hear that the next will be a total redo?

Not sure when exactly, there was a thread on here before that said sometime in the fall?

I just got my Cx-5 and I updated the tomtom navigation via their program that you download to your computer and then take the SD card out, and then update it. The other thing to update is gracenote, which is the phone and voice programming, there is another thread on here, but it it easy to find from the mazda usa page, under the owners menu. I noticed that the tomtom update did a few things, have not had a chance to try out the gracenot update, but it claimed to enhance some of the voice features...

Pretty sure the next software update wont fix much. All they could fix would be the safety lock. The USB Bluetooth fix is an actual hardware replacement. That is what I am waiting for.

Hello all,

I took my 2014 CX-5 GT in for 15,000 mile today. I had a few issues I wanted addressed.

1. The USB port using a USB stick always starting from the first track (or as Mazda says "working as anticipated")
2. The bluetooth module "eating" my third USB drive. Yes. Today, believe it or not, it killed my third drive. Typically, it starts losing information (artist, album, title), then either isn't recognized or comes up "USB Error" and greys out the USB tab.
3. The driver side mirror vibrates at highway speeds.

The service manager is the same dick from the last time. He knows nothing about any complaints, yada, yada. I went and talked to the closest thing they have to a techie guy. He's in agreement with me about everything - apparently the '16 CX-5 will have Mazda connect rather than what we have. I showed him this thread and many others, including the petition. He gets on the horn with Mazda USA.

They are replacing my bluetooth module. Whether it is an upgrade or not, or what we have been waiting for is TBD. They said it has a software upgrade or update. I will let you know the outcome, but apparently there is a TSB (tech service bulletin) related to the bluetooth module, but more specifically regarding the "icons" disappearing. If that is the defect, they replace immediately, if not, your case has to be proved. Mine was. USB drive dead. Right until I left the dealer, at which time it started working again, albeit from track one.

They are replacing both my side mirrors. There is a TSB on this as well. The fix is in the '15 mirrors, which are visibly different. But they can't just replace one, since they look different.

So, in about 1.5 - 2 weeks, I should be able to provide the outcome. I will let you know, and my fingers are crossed, but my level of hope is not very high.

They replacing the mirrors with '15 mirrors? I'm about to take my car in for the same reason and first service. It would be nice to get a free upgrade.

Yes, that is correct. The delay is to order and paint them to match.

I bet they are using this TSB for your BT issue.

Yup. That looks like it, and my VIN fits. Hopefully the bluetooth is an upgrade. We'll see in a couple weeks.

Well, I have a 2015 (had it for a whopping five days) and I can tell you that I have the same issues #1 and #2. USB stick was working last night; left it in the car overnight and when I started the car this morning it was trying to read the stick for the longest time and then finally came back with a "USB Error" message. I drove by the dealer and showed it to the service manager, but he insisted I make an actual appointment next week with him and a technician to look into it. I can already tell that dealing with Mazda service will be as much fun as dealing with Honda service...

Took my USB stick into the house and stuck it into my computer; it recognized it right away and it seems all my data is on the stick, but when I tried to play some of the MP3s, media player started playing and then seemed to get stuck/paused for a second before continuing to play, getting stuck again, etc. I am reformatting the stick right now and will copy the data back afterwards; let's see if that fixes anything.

The only thing I did yesterday was updating the Gracenote database, which seemed to go without a hitch. I don't think that had anything to do with it?

For s**** and grins I took a copy of the German TSB to the dealer and showed it to him. While he was aware of issue #1 he claimed that there was no fix ("Well, I've got the fix right here...") and would have to call Mazda, presumably after my appointment next week. I also showed the TSB to the parts guy and had him look up the part number, but he was unable to pull it up the system. Not sure if it was because there was system maintenance going on or because the part is not in the database. I asked him to try again on Monday and to give me a call.

On #2 I wonder if a locked SD car in a USB adapter would experience the same fate? Does it seem like file system corruption or is it some kind of physical or electrostatic damage?

2013-2015 CX-5 - DRIVER-SIDE POWER DOOR MIRROR VIBRATION

BULLETIN NOTE

This bulletin supersedes the previous bulletin 09-002/13 issued 02/26/13, 10/24/13. The APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS, DESCRIPTION and REPAIR PROCEDURE have been revised.

Changes are noted below in Red beside the change bar.

APPLICABLE MODEL(S)/VINS

2013-2015 CX-5 vehicles with VINs lower than JM3KE******465579 (produced before April 1, 2014)

DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles may exhibit a vibration from the driver-side power door mirror glass when the vehicle is driven at high speeds.

This concern may be due to a lack of rigidity of the mirror base so the mirror vibrates when it receives vehicle vibration or wind pressure.

An additional reinforcement has been installed inside the door to increase the door panel strength where the door mirror is mounted. Also, the door mirror shape has been changed. Both of these modifications have been implemented to eliminate mirror glass vibration concerns.

Customers having this concern should have their vehicle repaired using the following repair procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Depending on the VIN, perform applicable repairs according to the chart below.

VIN / Prod. Date Range

Applicable Repair

Repair A: Installation of outer door mirror reinforcement

Repair B: Replacement of outer door mirror

Just as a quick follow-up: Reformatting the stick and copying the data back onto it did seem to fix the problem, so the USB stick was not physically damaged. Whatever may have caused it seems to have just cause data corruption on the stick.

Damn... I hate to hijack this thread for the mirror thing, but do you know if the changed mirror shape is the same as what they are now using on the 2015 CX-5's? I have mixed emotions about that 2015 side mirror, but having my mirror no longer vibrating while driving would be nice...

The fix that I am getting is to replace my '14 mirrors with '15 mirrors - the service manager took me over to a '15 CX-5 to show me what I was getting.

I just got back from the dealership on this mirror TSB. They only ordered a replacement DRIVER's side mirror. They told me that they should be cosmetically the same as the original. I tried to protest, show pictures, etc - but they wouldn't budge. At this point, I think my best bet is to just wait for the replacement mirror to show up, and if it's cosmetically different, to say "I told you so" and make them call Mazda for guidance.

They were nice enough to let me read the TSB (but not let me take it out), and it doesn't say to replace BOTH mirrors. In fact, the part list for the TSB _only_ shows the driver side mirror assembly. We'll see...

Take care
Gary

I read the TSB too, I think this is the same TSB that came out in Europe a few months back. Basically the bottom portion of the mirror has been redesigned (see page 5 http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=205803&d=1388809093). I'm wondering if that is what they are doing to your car.
