LOL. On day 7 of new ownership, I unknowingly left the cx5 in ACC mode; all day! Glad to have roadside assist - to my driveway, for a jump. (My car was parked nose in so my cables were not long enough). Roadside assist got to me in 20 minutes - nice!

Did I break a newbie record? My competitive side wants to know.

Thanks for the laugh. I can't count the number of times I whispered to myself "Oh for Stupid". Sort of Northern Europe version of "Doh!"

This is strange. All accessories if you leave them on will be shut down automatically after about 30 minutes. There is not much to drain your battery even if you manually leave your dome lights on. In other words, your battery should not die even if you leave the car in ACC mode for the whole day.

I have done this too. I sometime turn off my car and forget to roll up the windows. I wish Mazda let me have all window control for a few seconds after turning off the car. The only warning you get is if you press the lock on the key fob twice. It won't beep if something is wrong. But I hate disturbing my neighbors.

That's a trip.
My smart-keyed 4runner goes crazy if you try to leave it on (acc or otherwise) without the keys within 10 feet or so of the car. It wont lock with them in it either. Just beep.

I agree about the window control. That's one thing that I miss about my old veedub. It gave you 45 seconds or so after turning the car off to remember the windows before it shut them off.

Hmm. Here's what occurred: Let me know if I may have a weak new battery or if you still think this is 'strange' & I should have it checked out. thx.
1) Car in driveway, I turned on ACC mode to roll down the windows - to air the new car smell out a bit. I do not remember if I turned acc off or hit start again, but engine was not running when I exited the car.
2) Exited the car with doors unlocked, windows down. I had the fob with me in my pocket. Heard the beep when I walked away but didn't think about it.
3) went on about my business at home.
4) 7 hours later, entered car to roll up windows for the night.
5) Nothing happened when I pushed start - no noise, the amber light on start remained constantly illuminated, the only dash light that appeared when I pressed start was the airbag/seat pretension light, nothing worked: break, air, In/Out lights etc.
6) I tried the fob, pushed start several times - nothing.
7) Next morning tried again, nothing. deduced battery died. Had it jumped, started up after about 5 minutes. left it running for 20 minutes. cars been fine since.

Good info. Here's what I think happened. To lower the windows, you weren't in the ACC mode (one button push w/o foot on brake), you were in the IGN mode (two button pushes w/o foot on brake). The windows don't move in the ACC mode. One more button push was needed to turn the car off after you had the windows where you wanted. It must not have happened. The auto shut-off feature mentioned previously works in the ACC mode but not in the IGN mode. Since the car did beep at you as you walked away, I don't think your car or battery has a problem. Just chalk it up to a new car learning curve, being a space cadet or a senior moment, your choice. Enjoy your new ride.

It happened to me twice already, that I went out next day and the car it was completely dead.
I can't imagine what happened.

Thanks! I didn't know IGN mode was different than ACC, and what you explained about IGN mode vs ACC. Really Good to know! I searched the manual for a specific cause and do not recall seeing a IGN mode referred to there. Def. new to pushbutton start operator error.

I did that at a antique engine show. disconnected the trailer from the car moved it a few feet away and shut it off, then turned the ignition back on to put the windows up. A few hrs later dead battery. I was showing a antique generator, so I was able to supply my own power to recharge the battery. Grin

It would be nice if the car would squawk if it is on and the key goes away.

You're welcome. I need to correct one thing. I double checked in the manual and Mazda uses the term ON not IGN (senior moment for me). The functionality is better explained on pages 4-2 and 4-3 in the manual. Bottom line, the pushbutton behaves differently depending on if the brake is depressed or not.
