Help: My wife's Mazda 3 just lost it's passenger side HID (driving) light.

I went by NAPA and they quoted me a price of $217, but it was special order only. Other than the dealer of course, does anyone offer a replacement bulb for this? Is that really what these things cost?!??!?!

Thanks,

kevinl

For the record, just a stock 05 Mazda 3 5-door with nearly 40K on it. Fully equipped except Nav. Purchased Dec. 24, 2004. In fact, I wrote the first Mazda 3 review on Epionions.com.

40 k?! damn!
still under warranty??

I think I have seen replacement HID bulbs going for around 120 for a pair

yes, High Intensity Discharge bulbs are not under 100 per pair... yet.

have the dealer replace them- warranty, i mean a bulb for 2 years is somewhat young for an HID.

Still need help with HID replacements...

Seems like everyone has HID upgrades buy I can't find any stock HID replacement bulbs. Except the dealer and NAPA of course at $215+ PER BULB !!!!

Still needing help, advice, resources, anything...Thanks.

That right there is the main reason I went with the standard halogen bulbs for our 3. Even $209 a pair for these bulbs is utterly ridiculous, especially when you can get a good pair of halogen bulbs for under $40.

I also can't stand the hue/tint of the light that the HIDs produce, to me it's really distracting.

i didnt get the HID because it cam ewith the stupid TPMS crap. i put aftermarket wheels on my 3 2 days after i bought it so the tpms light would have just stayed on. i hate blinking dash lights.

there werent any manual 3s' with HID left anyhow.

Make sure that when you replace the bulb that it is the Same Kelvin or it will look dumb, then you will look dumb.. :)

Dealer will replace under warranty. I had one go out also.

yeah, it should be replace by the dealer.

what was the warranty for the 3's 3y/36K?

Thanks for everything guys - I'll check in with the dealer first as I think we still have a recall notice pending. If that don't work, I'll cough up for a pair at $209 I guess.

(scratch) Ummm... you sure you didn't mean Dec. 24, 2003? I know for a fact that there were epinions reviews written more than 10 months ago.

And if your wife is putting 4,000 miles a month on her car, then you might want to think about moving closer to wherever it is she's driving to!

GoldWing2000 - (hah) you got that right. Should have been Dec24, 03. Man time flies!!!

As I said, I was the first - which for some stupid reason I took great pride in. But somehow, there are now two reviews that show up as being entered before mine. I guess they did beat me but put them in the wrong section or something. Anyhow, here's my review from Feb.,04: http://www.epinions.com/content_131310194308

We bought the second 03 from that dealership and literally took the display model right off the showroom floor. I think ours was 100% loaded except the CD/nav system. It was the first time we ever bought a brand new car so we grabbed the best one there.

Oh, and as for the mileage, it's not so much local driving (though in Dallas that does ad up fast.) We drove that car EVERYWHERE the first year, and we still take it on every family road trip. Awesome fun little car!!!
