03.5 msp
im new to the modding community. i just got a 2003.5 blazing yellow msp and im looking to do a few things - injen cai for sure. im also considering a greddy type-s bov (although ive read many posts about stalling issues) and either a protosport dp or some other exhaust system. my main question is to achieve the growling noise (similar to many wrx's), would a dp do the trick or would a new exhaust system be required? id like to keep the tip thats on there, and i dont have a huge budget. advice?

- a newb in need :)

hmm first get the dp, id go with the 2.5 and then get full exhaust. that will give you a deeper sound. as far for sounding like a wrx. eh i dont think we will ever come close.

Welcome to the board, free bump for you so someone out there with more knowlege can help you.

Also go to the central us / texas forum and sign up for the texas meet this march 19-21 in austin.

hmm

hks bov is good, youre car will not stall since its pull type, and there shoud be a post about exhaust systems and vids/sounds of them try doing a search on it

the reason that there's stalling is because when people decided to put a BOV on, they took the stock BPV out and replaced it without recirculating the BOV.

 at wanting the msp to sound like a wrx.

Welcome to the forums though, hope you enjoy it, theres alot of great info here, and a variety of opinions...
I'm a search nazi, so dont be taken aback if i tell people to search alot.

thanks for the help guys. now if only i can scavenge the money...being broke is never cool.

moeed - thanks for the heads up bout the centex meet.

any other mod suggestions would be gladly appreciated.

thanks again boys.

joe p MBC, and if you live in a cold climate, joe P fcd.
Boost gauge is all you really need, but oil pressure or EGT are nice too.

in terms of exhaust - whats the best thing to do if i wanna keep the tip and everything that shows, but get a throatier sound? would i get a whole system then just weld on the tip? also - im completely imcompetent in most car lingo - whats the benefits of a cat back , is it really worth the money? does a catless dp sound like a catbak dp? please pity my being retarded.

boost gauge, mbc/ebc ( i think ebc's are a waste of $$ but your choice..), intake, catback, dp, test pipe/high flow cat........is the order id go in

I wouldn't touch the boost until you did some serious upgrading first. I won't confuse you with the details, but you'll figure it out as you read more of this forum. Intake is good, downpipe is good. That should theoretically get you ~20 extra HP. That's enough go-fast modding for a newb. You can do the other stuff later. I highly recommend the kartboy urathane shifter bushings.
Kartboy.

If you want to install a BOV on your car and make it work right, you will need to get either aftermarket metal pipes and weld a flange onto them or epoxy your own flange into the stock pipes.
Stock Pipe BOV Mounting
Aftermarket Pipe BOV Mounting
Just make sure you add a BOV and leave the stock BPV in place. This will eliminate stalling and give you the correct "whoooosh" noise we all want.

I have the Injen Intake, Kartboy bushings, and an HKS SSQV BOV. Downpipe is next, just have to research a little and pick one. I consider myself a newb as well and my modding will stop at the downpipe until I understand enough to start messing with the boost. Search for blown motors, you'll understand. Nearly everyone with a blown motor had raised the boost.

a dual blow off setup, with one recirculating, and one venting to atmosphere?? ........you would still be venting air that has already been metered...and the car will still run crappy..

i read alot about a turbo back exhaust. people say they do them custom because theyre pretty expensive otherwise. what kind of place would i need to go to to get a custom job done? what kind of hardware do i need to bring with me? just a downpipe and theyll do the rest? exhaust are really foreign to me
