Hey everyone,

I'm new here to the board.

I'm Jenn from Nova Scotia, Canada.

I bought a Spicy Orange 2003 MS Protege last week and thought this would be a good resource.

Just a couple questions though:

1) what type of oil/filter would you suggest for me doing my first oil change on the car?
2) Have any of you found the rear suspension to creak and squeak a little bit? (I have Gold Line springs on the car, it came that way). Mine is really creaky and I'm wondering if something might be wrong.

i have a k and n filter on mine...not sure if that was stock or not....
i like castrol gtx syntex for my car....

the creak i would have said it was the bushings but goldline springs...not sure if those were the stockers prob not...thing is the creak is common with our car..its a dealership warranty fix and doesnt take long but this goldline may void that...mine used to do that..had to fix it twice (warrantied) but since the last fix it hasnt done it since

well first and foremost welcome to the forums bud gotta love the good ol' spicy orange.

1) Many people will tell you many different things when it comes to oil and oil filter is really a matter of what u personally like the best. I like redline, amsoil for higher priced synthetics and mobile 1 fully synthetic for a reasonably priced good synthetic oil. As for filters you can use the V6 mazda 626 oil filter since it is bigger you can go a little longer for you oil change intervals if you so desire. Personally i still do every 3000 with a purolator pure one filter.

2)As for the creaking noise you hear its definetly your rear sway bar bushings its extremely extremely common happens to pretty much everybody usually the dealer should fix if not you can buy new bushings like these..http://www.**********.com/AWR_SBB21_p/awr-sbb21.5.htm
for a temporary fix you can get stock oem replacements or just put some good lube on the stock bushings it will kill the squeak for a while.

What if I put the stock springs back on (they came with the car), and if it still creaks, take it to the dealer? I have warranty for another 108,000km. :)

i have goldlines on my es..and recently ive been getting a creeking sound every so often...im not sure what it is...i plan on a completely new suspension set up in a month or so, so it doesnt worry me to much

Thanks for the tips. :) I'll contact the service centre at the dealership and inquire about it.

For the oil I use Mobil 1 synthetic 10W 30W. And I usually use a Fram oil filter, I like Fram because of the grip tape used on it. It makes installation a whole lot easier. I usually can find the oil for about $21 and the filter is about $3 or $4. The filter part number I can't remember right now, but if you go to any automotive place they should have it in stock. It's the same oil filter as the regular protege. I think it's LPXXXX something.

The rear suspension is most likely 'clunk' and you can find a lot of info on the forum if you just search for it. It's usually just a trait of these cars and typically there's nothing to worry about. Enjoy your auto!

i believe its up to the dealership....some mazda places will say "hey your springs arent stock so that caused the issue!!" others will be like "well your springs arent stock but that didnt cause the prob....we'll take care of it"

I think you should head to your nearest mazda place and talk to the repair guys...

That pic is taken like 10 minutes from my house. I love living near the ocean. :)

you can have the ocean...but anyway welcome to the site and the limited world of msp's

now what are u waiting on

find your production number and be proud damnit

Haha I'll find the production number after I find out what all the buttons on the CD deck do (with no manual (peep) )

I also have a project 1984 RX-7 GSL, and my S/O has a 2004 RX-8 GT in Winning Blue, so we're well represented in Mazdas. :)
