I heard a rumor that a mazdaspeed could beat an srt-4. Has this been done? I have yet to see it but just wanted to know what you guys think. Not hear to start anything. Just wanting to know more about other turbo cars.

Well..

K&N Filter
Larger downpipe
Upped PSI
(New tires, maybe. Mine are kind of worn)

The SRT-4 has a cheap open diff and it's torque actually counts against it off the line untill it gets traction. FF is a poor drag racing platform.

I am assuming you are talking about dragging, cause on an autoX track the SRT-4 would get whipped stock vs stock w/same driver.

13.7XX vs 14.9XX (although I've never seen that time)

SRT-4 owners are running 1.5-2 seconds faster on average than MSP owners (stock for stock)

That's why they have torque limiters in 1st gear. Otherwise they would just sit there & (burnout)

They do that anyway, FF sucks.

Plus: We get bonus turkey power.

I am still unsure about the performance of a mazdaspeed. I have heard a lot about how well they handle, but not to sound like a jerk. The msp would not be all that great if it had the same power. The car does not have enough power for it not to be a great handling car. As for the quarter mile performance, I ran my srt-4 stock with out the exhaust and I ran a 13.90 at 103mph. I think it would take a msp a little more than what you listed to run that.

uhh...would not be all that great if MSPs had the same power ? if an MSP had the same amount of power, they'd run just as fast as a SRT-4. and even if it did have more power, they'd still handle as well as they do now. and yes, people have broken into the 13's w/ those mods

It's always nice to see some other imports hanging here.

You heard right. The srt4 will hand an MSP it's ass in a 1/4 mile race with equal drivers. The beauty of the MSP, IMHO, is the overall package. Handling, comfort, interior quality, etc makes it the car I'd choose if I had the money. But this IS a Mazda board, so maybe I'm being a tiny bit unfair.

If 1/4 mile racing is your gig, then congrats! You bought the right car! There's nothing I know about in the srt4's class that can touch it on the drag strip.

I don't know if compressor surge is anything to be proud of now that we know it's the cause for the turkey. It's still amusing when people hear it for the 1st time though.

Ive thought about the msp vs the srt many a time....Ive even thought about a trade in for a 04 with a lsd.

A few things holdin me back.

Interor looks, the srt is fugly inside.
No pimp stock stero w/ sub..just another thing i would have to buy
ugly rims...again something i would have to buy.
just doznt have the overall finish of the msp..

things for the srt.
FAST!!!
Still handels really well. I mean really how often do i find myself on a windy road?
Warrrenty covered upgrades.(mopar)
Nice seats.
SOUNDS INSANE WITH MOPAR EXAUST!

Overall i chose the msp mainly for the interor and the overall finish to the car. Wasnt a huge fan of how small the front end on the srt was...almost like a bug with its curves.

yeah...blah blah blah Mopar is not responsible blah blah blah customers apply stuff at own risk blah blah blah

For a while, I wasn't sure if I made the right decision in getting the MSP after hearing about the 04 SRT-4. All I had to do was sit in one at the car show to realize how much I love my MSP. I'm sure they are fun to take to the drag strip, but it's definately not something I'd want to drive every day.

I wonder how many or your replies are just a single word or smiley. Trying to follow Dreeza's example? :p
