I just got my ms3 last night. It is the most amazing car ever. I had a msp before with over 10 grand into it, and the ms3 has just amazed me. I do have a question though. When I am driving at a slow speed it makes a quiet owl whooo kind of sound. Im thinking its the brakes rubbing still since it only has 100 miles on it. Im confused, help me guys. Do I need to set the brakes? Any help would be appreciated... THANKS

hmm, i dont remember having that problem. It could be misaligned or something? you could try and set the brakes if not i would just take it back to the dealer. IMO a new car is supposed to be PERFECT and you shouldnt tolerate anything less

Its the breaks, both my friend and I had the same thing.

When the pads are that thick and super close to the rotors it will touch when you turn then slightly. Give it about 1k miles or a bit more and you wotn hear it any more.

mine still does it on occasion, and i have 2,500 on it. keep in mind that everytime you take it to the dealer, you take the risk of them ******* something up. they could care less about your car, since most people wont notice small scratches etc.

my friend and i both have a ms3 and they both make this noise. we disagree with the brake hypothesis, its definitely behind the clutch pedal. a member on here, who goes by clos561 or something has the same issue and it was suppose to be a dry transaxle, but according to his last post that may not be it either.

Don't use clos561 as a reference. He beats on his car and admits it. Also never get the full story on all the "problems" his car supposedly has. Even tried to sell the car after destroying it (Mazda fixed it, so the story goes).(notcool)

yea well ur COOL!...yea i admit to everything i have done...unlike alot of people on here that drive their cars like complete grandmas right? 263hp/280tq and no heavy on the gas every now and then? wow sounds amazingly false....if ur car is making noise when u brake its normal and should go away...my car was making wierd noise after the tranny was worked on by the master mechanic at my mazda dealer...at first they thought it was the axle that was "dry" but they "changed" it and it still made the same noise...they are now waiting on the mazdausa tech team to contact them for further instructions on how to fix the noise which is pretty loud when 1st gear is engaged and i make a sharp turn...the problem will obviously be fixed because its warrantied...CONGRATULATIONS on the ms3 and have fun...definitly the best car along with my cadillac that ive ever owned...(friday)

I have the same noise.. and its more pronounced when doing slow turns... have 7K miles and dealer test drove it twice and couldnt hear it... Im not sure its clutch or brakes but rather the differential but thats as good a guess as any... needless to say it may just be "normal" or cold weather related - hasnt done it now that summer is here....
I stopped worrying about it ... performance or handling hasnt suffered and I doubt if it is a problem that it wont fail before warranty....
Mind you its happened to me maybe 10 times in 7K miles

I was to bring mine the past friday, but i tried all day to get it to make the noise with no luck. I even drove about a block at 1500 rpm, with no luck. No use in bringing it in to the dealer to have them say, "bring it back when the noise comes back." The dealer is a waste of my time. My friend has just about 5k miles on his ms3, if I remember correctly and mine has about 1500 miles. And, its about 109 degrees here in Vegas. So, theres two conclusions here. One, its not a temperature thing. Two, it doesnt just go away after the break in period. Sucky.

Its probubly the brakes...mine did that for awhile when i first got it but it has since went away.

Thanks for all the help. Love my car it is the craziest car I have ever owned. Still going easy on it cant wait until the first 1000 miles are up.

Mine was just doing that this morning as I COASTED to a light. I wasn't applying the brakes, and I had the clutch depressed and I could feel something rubbing, then not, then rubbing again. My wife of course didn't hear or feel anything. Just funny you brought this up and it happened today.

Which is why I disagree with people who say its just the brakes, it cleary is not.

diffrential? my car is at the dealer now waiting for response from mazda usa tech team because they dont know what it is...my noise only occurs when i turn sharp and am rolling engaging first and engaging the clutch...they thoguht it was the axle but they supposedly changed it and its still makin noise...

car does the same thing, only when turning at slow speeds while on the brakes.
2007 ms3 black mica
only mod so far sons car seat.
waiting to hit 1000 miles.

Let us know what they say...

I think I heard is again yesterday but I wonder if its just the pressure plate since I hear it seldom but only when working the clutch.
