2002 Mazda Protege5
About a month ago I purchased a 2002 Mazda Protege5 from supposedly a really good friend. LOVE it!!!! Problem...check engine light came on a day after I purchased it and it started having this knocking sound. On top of that I put two quarts of oil in the car and a week later no oil (no leaking)I had the codes read and it said knock sensor and or/circuit, idol and two other codes...I replaced the knock sensor...engine light was reset and off for a couple a days. I took the car to two mechanic friends both said I need to replace the engine.....A. Is it the engine or possibly something else? B.Is it worth replacing the engine or should I resell and explain it to the next owner who might want it for parts? C. Where can I possibly find a cheap engine considering I have put a lot of money into this car already?

Any posts would be much appreciated since in the great state of GA I cant get it registered bc the check engine light is on and wont pass emissions :(

It depends what is wrong with the motor. You can find a junkyard motor anywhere from $500-2k. I say it is worth replacing if you find a used or rebuilt motor with a warranty. If you don't want to deal with it then sell it as is or replace the motor and sell it.

How much do you want to sell it for? You can buy a fsde from a 626, swap the cam pulleys and some other stuff from your motor to the donor motor. Its not a silver p5 from Newnan is out?
