New to forum getting cx-5

I don't think anyone has said that a sunroof destroys performance or kills mileage except you. The Mazda engineer said it has an effect on performance and mileage. This is true.

So does using a larger tire. 15's would give better mileage and acceleration. I find his explanation technically correct, and completely absurd.

Not sure if ppl are following this or not but just to share have narrowed the search down looking at a few in the next few days.
All are options but I'm in no hurry so walking out if they won't deal won't be a problem.
Any thoughts or recommendations as far a price to shoot for or which on would be best value.
2014 cx 5 sport 16690 black at local Subaru dealer (may or may not help trade in of wife's 09 Impreza)
2014 cx 5 tour 18989 dark blue (Mazda dealer)
2013 cx 5 grand tour 20500 (jeep dealer)
2014 cx5 grand tour 21900 white (ford dealer)
2012 cx 9 grand tour 21969 (Mazda)

I'm shopping used too. Those 2014 prices are mostly in line with what I'm seeing here in Phoenix, but the 2012 and 2013 seem really high to me.
Avis sells a bunch of used rentals here in Phoenix. A 2016 Touring with 30k miles is $20,300. It doesn't look like they have a similar operation in PA though.

I bought my 2015 Touring last year around this time for $21K or so with 27k miles on it. Rental car is the way to go, IMO. Regularly serviced, it doesn't have enough balls to have hurt itself or been driven crazily, and if it did it still has 30K+ miles for you to figure it out and have it fixed free of charge.

I think a former rental can be a good car but inspect it VERY carefully. Rental cars companies are self insured so if the car you are looking at has been in a serious accident there will not be a record. Drive it, get it on a lift, inspect every inch.

Thanks for the replies. Bought a 2013 cx 5 grand touring AWD in sky blue mica. So far love it and most importantly my wife loves it. Wished it would have worked out on the 2014 with the 2.5 but couldn't get to the price we wanted. I'll have to post up some pics once I figure out how this site works.

The 2.0 is a better engine, imo, it's just not powerful enough, but if you love it, that's what matters and if you love both, the 2.0 is the way to go.

Yeah we like it... Few issues for them to take care of that we are heading back on Saturday to get cleaned up. Side panel near gas peddle was missing all but one clip and fell off on the way home. And their car cleaning guys got wax on almost every piece of black trim.

I know this is going to sound crazy but it was at night so give me a break... I didn't relize that the car has two different types of tires one front one rear. Size is the same and tread looks to be fine and the same on all. Any issue with different brands with it being an AWD car?

No, but It could be a factor in the rain is the water performance characteristic are different

Not really with this design, IMO. that said, I always replace all 4 tires at once on ANY car.

brands, no, but the manual probably states that the tires need to all be replaced at the same time to ensure the tread depth is about the same at each wheel.

Thanks for the replies everyone. All tread is the same height and very close in pattern as well. One tire has a slow leak 34to 20psi in about 24hrs so taking it back tomorrow. Guy said if it's bad they will replace it. I will def push for all 4 to be done if it needs replaced.

Honestly? sounds like you should just do all 4. That's what I do every time I buy a used vehicle, because most people buy the cheapest junk they can on a vehicle they are to trade in, or they don't replace the tires at all and trade them in badly worn. Either way, I put new quality tires on, get an alignment, and am happy.

Hmm, what makes you say the 2.p0op is a better motor (assuming stock)? Mpg wise, I think you'd have a hard time getting "30"mpg just because you have to wring the b**** more when you need to pass or join the highway. Getting that kind of mpg around here would mean no kidding grandma driving most of the time.

Now for aftermarket stuff maybe, just because the 2.0 is a smaller motor physically. People are putting miata cams in their 2.0 + tuning giving over 40hp bump. But other than that I know of a 2.5 and 2.0 both running similiar turbos and same boost target.. that being said, the 2.5 boosts full at 3000rpm (and it's rear mounted). The 2.0 boosts over 450p manifold mounted.

It's better balanced. I view it as mechanically superior, not functionally superior.

Not sure? I myself, like the newer NAV much better so far.

If you need to use google, or waze, you can also just turn on Bluetooth Audio, and hear the instructions from your phone over your cars speakers.

Thanks mazdadude...I found an answer to a problem I've had, in this unrelated thread. I wanted to know how to play the audio from google maps or waze through my phone without disconnecting the Bluetooth. I have a 2016 CX-5 Sport without nav., so whenever I wanted to hear the audio from google maps or waze, I would disconnect the Bluetooth. Maybe you can answer this question for me also also. I have an old Verizon email account that I no longer use, but its the one that appears in the infotainment. How do I go about replacing the Verizon email with my Gmail . I'm glad I found this forum..learning all kinds of great info.
