New PS3

The wife called me at work yesterday and asked me what I wanted for Christmas...A new recliner or a PS3? Well, since I have no problems with my recliner and she has to wake me up almost every night because I have a bad habit of falling asleep in the chair. I picked the PS3. She said it was on sale for $400 so she got it. While setting it up,of course I have to test it to make sure it works,I was thinking to myself that she got a good price. Then I snapped. I bet it's a 40GB and it is. It won't play my PS2 games, but I still have my PS2 so I thought big deal. It still plays Blueray movies so I can live with this situation. Hooked it up to my 54" Sony Wega HDTV,but I'm going out today to get a HDMI cable. Figured that would be better picture and sound.

What are some good games to play and how do ya'll like your PS3's?

Man, my wife spoils me!

Just read some reviews on the PS 40GB. All good. Seems the only complaints were that it doesn't have BC which I really don't need since I still have my PS2.

I love my PS3, got one of the early 60 gig ones with the backwards compability and all that jazz. Resistance: fall of man is great, call of duty 3 is good, F.E.A.R. is decent if you get it used. Armour core 4 is alright, but I've barely played it so it is more of a first impression than anything. I've heard heavenly sword is pretty good from the other PS3 thread on here.

thanx

no BC on the 40gig eh? I was wondering what the catch was. Is it missing anything else?

2 usb ports instead of 4 and some memory, but I only use it to play games and to watch blu-ray movies. I don't go online or download music and pictures and stuff so it's perfect for what I use it for.

Got the HDMI cable and what a difference!

Rainbow Six Vegas
Ghost Recon 2
Warhawk
Elder Scrolls: Oblivion

Are some other games that are good. There are quite a few good ones about to come out as well. Such as Time Shift, Need for Speed prostreet, Assassins Creed

Motostorm is pretty sweet when you are actually playing, but the long load times wreck it for me. Stuntman is pretty enjoyable too. Tiger woods 07 is alright, but I found that it takes to long to play a round. I'm used to Hot Shots golf, where you can make your swing and then jump to where the ball landed. In Tiger woods they seem to want to show off how cool their graphics are.

LAIR looked alright, then I noticed that you are riding a dragon and that seemed a little ghey to me, don't get me wrong, fire breating is cool, but I don't want to spend hours riding a dragon.

Rented Resistance:Fall of Man. It's OK,but nothing that really blew me out of my seat with graphics. Also rented 300 on Blu-Ray. Pretty cool.

I thought all ps3's were reverse compatible. That's bulls*** if they aren't. Sony dropped the ball if that is indeed the case.

i read that it is...just might need the new software update. They should all be reverse compatable and now the DVD should up convert non blueray dvds.

bah....it doesnt have backward capabilities...the 80gig one does...

Heavenly Sword is awesome. It's just really, really short. Ridge Racer 7 is excellent if you're a fan of the series. It's gorgeous and vintage Ridge Racer. Skate is the is Forza 2 to Tony Hawk's Burnout. Def Jam: Icon isn't bad, but it's no Def Jam: Fight for New York. Not by a longshot. NBA Street: Homecourt is good, but shallow.

Are the rainbox six games good? I've never actually played any of them (except maybe one for the game boy advance). What are some games they ae similar too?

Backward compatibility isn't that big of a deal because most PS3 buyers already own a PS2, and trust me, once you've played some XBox360 or PS3 games in high def going back to low-def PS2 games is TOUGH (rare exceptions being something like God of War 2).
