New PS3

doesnt mean i want to eliminate the possibilty, nor do i want to keep 2 systems around... I'd just spend the extra $100 and get the 80 gig

I gave the ps2 to my little sister because she wanted guitar hero. She earned it by taking care of the lil pug, so I gave it to her but I assumed the ps3 was reverse compatible. Again stupid of sony. And really 2 systems take up space. Why have them both on your tv stand? I guess I will have to shell out another 100 as well. I will wait until they have games worth playing.

I keep my PS2 in an extra room for the kids, which are gone now for a short while. The PS3 is all mine!! Once ya go high def there's no lookin' back.

Backward compatibility isn't that big of a deal because most PS3 buyers already own a PS2, and trust me, once you've played some XBox360 or PS3 games in high def going back to low-def PS2 games is TOUGH (rare exceptions being something like God of War 2).

That's true for the most part. I went HD last weekend and it completely blew my mind. But, as you also pointed out, there are lots of must-haves on the PS2 that are dirt cheap now. HD is awesome, but you need Bully and the GTA games and the God of Wars and Metal Gear Solid games in your collection...

All in due time grasshopper. Good things come to those who wait.
Can you imagine those games in HD?

Yup, I agree. Generally I agree that it was a dumb decision for Sony to pull the BC from the 40 gig - they even admitted it didn't save them much money at all to do so. They felt PS2 game sales were taking away from PS3 sales but I don't really agree with that myself.

The only reason I'd buy a PS3 at the moment would be the oncoming GT5. I'm a sports/racing gamer, and so far most of the games in those categories haven't been all that fantastic.

I thought all ps3's were reverse compatible. That's bulls*** if they aren't. Sony dropped the ball if that is indeed the case.

the newer cheaper PS3 is not backwards compatible. i think sony dropped the ball completely with PS3. the initial sentiment from sony when people bickered about price was "this system is for the hardcore gamer and if you're hardcore people will pay for it." then once again, they launched the system with a weak launch selection and sales all but tanked right after launch. right after that they scrapped the 20GB model entirely and dropped the prices. you then have the "will they or won't they" on rumble controllers and all the BS excuses as to why they didn't have it, when in actuality it boils down to sony being too cheap to pay the company with the patent on the function. yeah, they've done it now out of court and its coming but we've got a year plus games under our belt that didn't have it.

i am pretty disappointed with my ps3 honestly. i love call of duty 3 and will be getting call of duty 4 for sure. i own the system pretty much to play mgs4 and gran turismo. i bought madden 08 and was shocked. it only plays in 720 and runs less than 30 frames a second. if i wanted a game of madden that looked that bad i'd pick it up for DS. the 360 version looks a million times better in 1080 and doesn't have the lag or clipping. i hate how the controller charges, how short the damn cables are, how updates take forever to download and install and how it seems like every time i buy a game i have to go through a bloody process of download, install and reboot just to play it. its as bad as installing XP software onto a system with Vista.

thats just my gripes i guess. i liked resistance, loved call of duty, love the blu ray support and am eagerly awaiting metal gear and gran turismo. but its inexcusable - call me a tech snob if you want - that games play and look better on an xbox 360 which is supposedly light years inferior to the mighty ps3, especially when companies like EA have been developing for the system for two years plus.

just grab a used ps3 with all the bells and whistles from ebay, save some coin!

No doubt it has some issues but so far it has lived up to my expectations if not exceeded them. I know when I got my PS2 at launch it took at least a year until I actually owned a game that i thought made the system worth owning but the PS3 is worth owning just for the blu-ray playback alone IMO.

As for the system updates, if you get a newer game you shouldn't need to download an update - new games include the latest firmware right on the disc. In fact 1.94 currently can't even be downloaded - it's only available on newer games like Rachet and Clank. Regarding the controller charging, I just charge mine via my computer that's sitting right next to me. I either recommend that or buy any standard USB extension cable to make the cord as long as you want.

i baught a 20 gig when they 1st came out, well after they prices came down a little, but i love it. i dont play it much due to the lack of games, after this year there are alot of great games coming out. GTA 4 is going to be sweet.

I can't believe the complaining I'm reading about the 40GB not having BC. Maybe it's because I don't live to play my PS3. It's more of a toy to use when nothings on tv or the wife and I just want to relax. This system is perfect for me and like I said before I still have my PS2 to play the other games....no big problem. If your a big time player then get the 60 or 80GB PS3. I feel like this one was put out for people like me,part timers and BLU-Ray as an extra gift.

hell yes it is, but i will still buy it for 360 if it does not play/look better than its Ps3 counterpart. I think it will look better on Ps3 though, especially seeing as its been delayed for extra dev time :D i would not be surprised to see sony fork out for an exclusive and they would be wise to.

i'm of the mindset that HD DVD is going to eventually surpass Blu Ray, but yeah like i said i do love the Blu Ray playback. Its very nice. Yeah, I could buy longer cables. Yeah, I could take them up to my PC. But out of the box for the price I paid I should not have to do that. Call me a snob, whatever. Its built with HD in mind, so why include a cable that requires you to sit about 3 to 4 feet away from one when an ideal sitting position from larger HD tv is twice that?

Only way it can surpass blue-ray is in sales (and I don't see that happening), technology wise blue-ray is far superior.

You only have 1 controller? I usually just swap mine out. I'll charge my other controllers while playing with another.

I just leave my charging on my computer over night when I'm not playing it. You get a long time out of one charge anyways, is it really that much of an issue?

Agreed. I don't know if I've ever sat and played with a charging controller.
