New MSP Short-Ram Intake

I just read all 8 pages of this thread but i think I missed something. The heat shield plate that everyone wants keeps the intake air cooler than the engine temps right? I think it was referred to as the "icebox" on that Supra site. And for this box to do it's job do you need to have air flowing on it directly? IE taking out the fog light or just having a 03.5 so air is flowing up onto the box.

Please clarify

no, simply by being shielded from the heat of the engine the air in there will be cooler. air will be drawn up from below rather than hot air coming from the engine side to fill the space in the box. it would work better if cold air flowed into the box, by taking the headlight out, ducting to the front, or something like that, but by simply blocking the hot air from getting to the filter cooler, more dense air will be drawn in.

I really can't figure out why it matters about a actual "ram intake". If you have a NA motor than yeah, you want to help the compression pull air in, but for those of us with boost, the turbo does all that work. Thats why I thought most real turboed cars just have a SRI or similar. Correct me if I am mistaken here.

Hey guys, talked with Billet Design. We're gonna start off with a limited run of 5 intakes, most likely with heat shields. Price will be $215.

Question:

Will this SRI be able to be used with the rest of the hard pipes from another kit?

I like the SRI w/ heatshield better, but want the rest of the pipes hard too.

ok ive read all 11 pages and have to say that i was going to get the injen CAI but i am definetly down for this SRI w/ heatshield instead. plus any way of hearing the new bosch bpv cuz if it sounds purrty i'll spend the extra $20

PUT ME DOWN FOR 1 SRI w/ HEATSHIELD:D

yeah...i was thinking of getting the injen CAI, too, but this looks like this would be something worth investing in instead...i want a heatshield, too. :)

Still working on it. Hang on a little longer. :)

Oh and for those who didn't see my other post, I did 14.3 @ 98.5mph with just this short-ram intake & boost controller.

Just something I'd like to maybe point out, and feel free to disagree, but if having an SRI was better, wouldn't you think that Injen or Spool or AEM or whoever would have an SRI out on the market? Why would they put a CAI out and not an SRI, when we all know Injen does make SRIs for many other cars? If an SRI is better, why not put those out instead of the CAI?

i dont know if anyone ever said sri was better performance wise

but i live in new england, and dont want my cai sucking up water or any other crap so SRI is the only one for me

Marketing.

To put it short, a Cold-Air Intake will sell better than a Short-Ram Intake to a new crowd like this. Injen and AEM know this. And they better, if their main business is selling intakes. Their first priority is sales, not performance. The fact is, Cold-Air Intakes are mainly developed for naturally aspirated engines, generally in the same class ($16-20k sport sedan). The difference is, we have an intercooler, but many Mazdaspeed owners are unfamiliar with it's purpose anyway. As for Spool, they don't sell a full intake, but rather an extension for the stock intake.

Do you think the offer will be ready in 1-2 months? Or do you have any kind of time estimate.
