2003 Mazdaspeed Protege #718
How's it going ya'll? I'm Dustin from San Antonio.
Two days ago I bought a Mica Black 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege with 77k miles. I'm loving this car so far, and have been reading up on mods (it's all stock except for being lowered.)
Today I started doing a tune-up by running seafoam through the brake booster line and the gas tank and white smoke started coming up from in front of the engine, down by the turbo. I couldn't tell exactly where it was coming from, and figured I'd post my introduction and ask for some help.
The only other issues with the car (besides the clunking rear bushings) is that if I get it up in the boost and go to slow down by depressing the clutch the car will stall out (but only if I go to neutral or engage the clutch) and I noticed what looks like oil to be seeping out around the hose going to the intercooler.
I'm planning on replacing the PCV, plugs, coils, air filter and wires.

Thanks in advance.

I'll be the first to welcome you! Good to see another Black Mica on here.

I'm no expert by any means, but you may want to pull the heat shield (if you haven't already done so) and check for cracks in your manifold. Our stock manifolds are prone to cracking, so you may be getting a leak from there. Hopefully one of the more experience members will be able to chime with some other suggestions if that doesn't help. Good luck!

Thanks guys. I pulled my heat shield today and noticed a few hairline cracks in it, and ran some tranny fluid through the intake to check for smoke and noticed a pretty good leak from the flange collector gasket.
I figure I may as well use this as an excuse to upgrade, so now I'm looking into an aftermarket exhaust manifold:)

Welcome to the forum. There is alot of good stuff on here.

Cracked Mani FTW lol

Black Mica FTW

And since no one mentioned the oil in the intercooler piping.....if there's quite a bit(enough to seep through the coupler) you may have blown seals on your turbo.

Welcome to the forums! You'll have time of fun here

Welcome to the forum. I got a extra mani for sale check my sig and as for the aftermarket mani look at this gb

I got in on the gb just in time lol. I'm concerned about the oil because it is dripping from the coupler so I may have to figure that one out, might have to wait until the next check though. Basically if the seals are blown I'm gonna have to look for a new turbo, right?
