I just received my new 2002 MP5... I got a good deal b/c it was the last one on the lot... here's the thing I like this car but I'm used to driving my M6 LS which had alot more balls so I need to add some power to this thing...

Where do you guys recommend I start (intake... exhaust?) please keep in mind I have a budget now that I put the down payment on the car..

Well Welcome
I'm sure Sir Nuke will give you the proper introduction to the site
You can start out with injen CAI/ AEM intake and exhaust like Bosal/racingbeat etc...
Just use the search button and you can find info on just about anything
And if your really thirsty to get some juice GO TURBO!!
Well peace and fresh grease

This is strange... I just traded in my 1994 MX-6 V6 5-speed in for my 2003 Laser Blue P5. I just found this web site to look for an answer to that exact question. Sure this car handles a HELL of a lot better then my MX-6 did, but pays for it huge in the get-up-and-go catagory!!

Hitch? Towing with MP5

Hey Dinger,

I noticed in your signature that you have "Hitch" as a mod? Am I to assume that this means you mounted a tow bar / hitch combo? I had thought about doing something similar, however the manual said not to tow anything with this car. I am wondering just how big a trailer you tow and how heavy? I have a small trailer with about a 4'x4' cargo area that I may want to tow someday with my P5. Can you enlighten me with your towing experience and the P5. Thanks!

CAI, Catback exhaust, 421headers, bigger downpipe, MS intake/exhaust cams, hi comp pistons,

that should give you a small boost..

Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

Thanks for the feedback guys...

hey Numb78 you wanna talk about coincidence my MX6 LS was also a 94... man I loved that car but the transmission gave up on me... twice!!! so I finally had to part ways with it. While at Mazda I too asked for a laser blue MP5 but my wife wanted a silver and since we're newly weds I gave in and got the silver one. I personally was surprised how the car handles but power wise it doesn't compare to the MX6 so that's why I came to this site...

My MX-6 had nasty electrical gremlins that I just could not figure out and after being left stranded in the dark with no headlights a few to many times it was time for it to go. My wife has a 2001 Protege ES GT, so the P5 looks real nice in the driveway right beside it!!

i guys i just tradeed my mx-3 for a p5 and i loved the mx but this car rocks in the twisties and the overall performce isn,t that bad . just keeps ya out of trouble!!!!!!!

To jrodhotrod,
The hitch I got was 1 1/4" and I'm using it for a bike rack.( I race BMX bikes & do alot of traveling)
I'm really not sure of the towing capacity, but I would imagine it wouldnt be much due to the small engine size. But it is a class one hitch, whatever that can tow.
I got it from hitchesonline.com for like 110 shipped
Sorry for the delay in the post
Hope this helps

Dinger,

Thanks for the info. I thought it was a little small to do any towing, but I'll investigate. Thanks!
