new member MS3/WRX?

CrazyT- could the bad paint on the WRX have been a one-off?

You will get used to the MS3 torque steer. It's pretty subdued compared to other fwd cars (I've had turbo Eclipses and Probes which were much worse, even with less power).

Take an extended test drive in the MS3 to see if the noise bothers you. It's a loud car.

I enjoy my MS3 but my commute is on twisty back roads. If it was all freeway it wouldn't be the right car for me.

Try a different insurance co.

The paint was orange-peely on other subarus in the lot as well. I think it stood out more on the WRX becuase it was a dark gray and contrasted a lot in the light. I noticed it a little on the mazda, but seems on par with other new cars. The subaru was highly orange-peel, as it was the first thing that grabbed my attention about the car. The metal flake thing I'm sure was a one-off defect. But for every one that you see in a 5 minute look, you miss two.

Anyway, I hope that the torque steer is something that I could get used to. That's becuase yesterday I stopped by the dealer and purchased a new '09 black MS3 GT. I'm in the club!

I'll post pics when I get it. They have to get if from a dealer a couple of hundred miles away, but should have it monday! I can't wait for Monday!!! (how many times have you said that?) (drinks)

If you want no orange peel buy a Porsche. But it will cost you, right?

CrazyT, Congratulations! You made a wise choice and welcome to the club :)

Maybe I was spoiled with my old 86 Rx-7. It had zero orange peel, and the factory paint looked good 23 years later (except the red looked orange under fluorescent light). Hell my ford pickup doesn't have any either.

Thanks. I probably won't post in this thread, because I don't want to thread jack. I entered this thread to help out the OP since I was in the exact same choice. 24hrs to go!

i saw what looked like an '09 wrx 4-door today - looked pretty mean with the aero kit.

then i saw my ms3 - looked less mean but much better :D

a bit off-topic, but while we're discussing cars, consider the power/wt ratio for the ms3 versus a bmw 335i:

ms3 - 263/3153 = 0.0834
335 - 300/3593 = 0.0835

so the 335 has a VERY slight power advantage yet is nearly a second faster than the ms3 to 60mph.. amazing that the drive wheels (FWD vs RWD, versus AWD in a WRX) can make such a big difference. the 335's ridiculously flat torque curve may come into play as well.

Yeap, it makes 300ft/lbs at an almost diesel like 1400rpms thanks to its twin turbo v6. A race from a roll would be much closer but the 335i should still win considering the need to shift less often due to a broader power band. I'm thinking about maybe getting a 135i in a couple years.

its just amazing how alexsered can be wrong about everything he says.

a gift indeed

except I can admit when I am wrong, the articles I was reading were from weeks ago when they were just hinting at the speed3, but yes, it now seems they are staying with FWD and I will not be getting the new one. I have high hopes for the 370z though, shorter, lighter and more powerful than the 350z.

Lets go back to the AP is better than the SB arguement, I see it coming from somewhere aMMguy. (spank)
