New Mazda Key FOB

Well it arrived. I couldnt be any happier. That key is so much nicer than the haggard back up. I can tell it was cut better than when the knuckleheads at ACE made my other spares when i got the car.

THANKS KEN!

On a side note, I bought a factory fob and can't program it for anything. I tried the instructions on this site with the turn the key on 3 times. Push the door switch 3 times... The car never seems to go into learning mode. Any of you guys have similar experiences? Workarounds?

Don't know if you'll get this... had the same problem, but I was the problem. I was hitting the wrong switch. I thought it was the switch in the door, on the panel, but its the switch thats in the door jamb, the one that turn you overhead light off/on.

Can you post a pics of it???

I'm still having a hard time deciding whether I like the new key. It's so much bigger, but it does look nicer with the silver Mazda emblem. I've seen it in person (my roommate has a Mazda3) but I still can't decide.

hmmm, cool. IMO the protege keys are nicer, but that's just me...

Do you have a pic?

I will admit that this sucker is beefy, but im real happy with it.

I like the exposed metal @ the top of the key, it looks cool (like, where the key ring goes in). Now, if I could have that w/ the new Flying M, it would look awesome ;)

I still haven't gotten around to figuring out why the key pictured above that I ordered from ken can start my car and lock/unlock the glovebox but doesn't work in the doors. I'm just dreading the day when my keyless entry battery dies and I can't get in the car anymore.. hopefully I'm home when it happens so I can grab the spare key :D

i'm totally confused. could anyone sum up which other key might fit the 98-03 BJs (3rd gen). a butterfly/switchblade key would be something i'd fancy. no probs with the immobiliser ?

This key works: http://www.msprotege.com/members/Captain KRM P5/key gb.JPG

Did your BJ come with an immobilizer? The Protege5s in North America didn't, so the chip in that Mazda3 key (the one I just linked to a pic of) just doesn't do anything for us.

yes, we have immobilisers, required by law for new vehicles since 1998 : makes the whole thing seem very difficult :(
on the other hand.. every BJ owner has a 4 digit number for his keypair (prolly for the RFID chip for the immobiliser?), i wonder what would happen if i ordered a Mazda3 remote and gave them this number to put the code in the key :-)

ok some small update: i investigated a bit and getting a switchblade key does not seem a problem anymore and the immobiliser chip can be transfered to the new key as well.
the "real" problem is to utilise the new remote control senders in the switchblade keyfob.
i had some email exchange with the manufacturer of aftermarket keyfobs and they do deliver a blackbox along with the aftermarket fobs that must be installed to the car's original central locking system. this sucks because then the original mazda keyfob wouldn't work anymore (which i think would be cool as a backup) :((

if there was some nice aftermarket fob that could be taught/adapted to the systems frequencies would be the coolest thing, but it seems there are too many different frequencies and sending patterns :(

Is the pic shown above a mazda3 key? Sorry to bump this old thread, was looking for a new key for my 02 P5.

Also, if I get the nice blue ones shown in this thread, it has to be WITHOUT Grooves, correct?

Yes, I believe the black plastic with chrome logo is a 3 key. The protege one is just black with no chrome. Yes, you need the ebay key without the groove.

So I bought a Mazda3 in 2007 and my sister just bought a 2008 Mazda5 and she has the VW like key and I want one for my car but the dealership is giving me the run around and I was wondering if you knew if it would work in my Mazda3 or not?(braindead
